So our DD has decided that she doesn't like the cot anymore and feels too closed in (we are assuming) and I say this because for the past week she has non stopped screamed and cried when out for a nap and when put to bed at night but last night we put the side of her cot down and heard no more from her.

Tonight I put her to bed and she was asleep straight away. No tears. No crying for mumma. Not a peep.

We don't have a cot bed so the side is still up just not as high.

We have a spare single bed that has been slept in just twice by our niece and are wondering if it's ok just to move her into that rather than a toddler bed?

My mum says we all went straight into singles as toddler beds weren't around then but I just can't make my mind up if I want to put her straight into a single which will make her look so tiny or spend out on a cot bed?

I'd put her in the single bed! I transitioned my son into his own single bed at 18 months, and my youngest now sleeps in a full-sized bed with him (all 3 kids share a room for now) and she started doing that about 18 months as well, but now at 20 months sleeps through the night most nights there. No need to buy a new bed, she's ready! And it's such a relief when they start sleeping!!

My DD went straight from a cot to single at 2. She could have gone in sooner but we did it as part of her birthday

My DD was in her own full sized single at 18 months. Didn't even bother putting any sides on the bed. She fell out a few times but as the bed wasn't miles off the floor I was never worried!

Same as the advice you've had. DD was in a single at the same age and it made a huge difference to her sleep and getting her into her room. If you're worried get her a bed guard but I'd say go for it. She'll probably prefer it xx

Thanks ladies, we will just move the single bed to her room for her then. We are also toying with the idea of no bed guard, it's not far off the floor and she absolutely loves laying on th the single bed when I'm in the spare room doing my make up and hair so I'm pretty certain she will love it.

Feel so reassured now, thanks :)
