We have our 20 week scan tomorrow, yay!!!!

We are confused though, in one part of the advice pack we got from the hospital it advises to drink a pint of water an hour before the scan, and another part of the pack advises not to drink anything!!

Talk about inconsistent....

Anyway what one is right?

I was told to drink before the scan as a full bladder pushes the uterus forward.

yep it does and you get a clearer pic  good luck tomorrow hun

you don't need to drink water before a 20 week scan.
Ive had 4 of these scans and ive never been told to drink before.
The 12 weeks scan requires a fullish bladder. :D

I arrived for my 20 week scan hopping from foot to foot as I was soooooooooooo desperate for the loo, the sonographer took one confused look at me and told me I didnt need to drink before this scan and to go to the toilet straight away. We had VERY clear pics at our scan so I'm voting with not drinking.

Hiya

By 20wks you have enough amniotic fluid around the baby that a full bladder is not necessary - Which I was relieved about because by that point I was on the loo every 5 mins as it was!
The 12wk scan requires that you ingest around a pint of water, if I remember correctly.

i think i could be getting the 12 an 20 week scan mixed up

I was told here in Denmark that it is the older machines that require a full bladder so it depends on your hospital. Good luck with the scan, I look forward to heraing about it :)

I wasn't told to drink water before my 20 week scan but found that in doing so it produced a better picture of our baby and i have also heard from other people that the more water you do drink the better the picture will be.

Hope all goes well!

I was so chuffed with it, I supose it can't hurt to drink before hand eh? I also think it may of helped the midwife to check the babys development and sex? But who knows if I hadn't have drunk anything it might have been the same?

i was told i didnt have to for my 20week scan either and it came out very clear :)
