Hi everyone,

So I went for an early scan today and was super pleased that we were able to see the fetus and it’s lovely little heartbeat :)
The baby is currently measuring at 2.6mm and the doc has placed the pregnancy at 6 weeks. Going by LMP I would be 6 wks 6 days and going by by my ovulation date I would be 6 weeks 2 days - does this mean the baby is not as big as it should be?
I don’t have to go back for any further hospital checks so presumably the doctor doesn’t think it’s a problem. Has anyone else come up this size at around 6 weeks and everything has been ok?
I know that just being able to see the heartbeat now should be enough for me but I wouldn’t feel right if I wasn’t worrying about something ;)

Ovulation is only 2 days out so I wouldn’t be too worried about it

I wouldn't be worried about that. It's really hard to get an accurate measurement so early in pregnancy. Which is why they have the dating scan at 12 weeks. Baby is really close to ovulation dates so it all seems very normal in my unqualified medical opinion lol xx

Mine was nearly exactly the same! Told at 6 plus 5 that I was measuring 6 weeks and I said that was 5 days difference and scanographer said that it is really a very approximate date and that they won’t date me until my next scan as it is so small you can’t get an accurate measurement. I have my scan next week so hoping all still ok :) I figure seeing the heartbeat is very positive, especially at this stage as a lot of ladies can’t see heartbeat till gone 7.5 weeks! Congrats!! Xx

Ah, that’s good to know :) I didn’t question it at the time as I was so excited to see the heartbeat I wasn’t paying much attention to the dates! I read somewhere that they allow a 7 day leeway with the early scan because it is so hard to get an accurate measurement so hopefully that’s all this is.

I hope all goes well at your scan next week. I’d love to know how you get on :)

Yeah I was measuring 4 days later than I expected at my early scan which was then put forward two days when I had my 12 week scan.

I’ll try to concentrate on the fact that we saw a heartbeat rather than the fact the measurements seems to be rather small for how far along I am!
I won’t be able to get another scan until week 12 (6 weeks away) unless I pay to get one privately done, which I am considering at the moment because it seems like a long time to wait without knowing how the little one is progressing in there...

I wouldn't worry as the scans are so inaccurate at this stage. Upto a week out is completely normal. Also even if you know when you ovulated you don't know when you implanted (unless you went through certain fertility treatments.) But if booking a private scan will put your mind at rest then it might be worth it for the peace of mind.
