Hi guys

i had the scan and the little one was moving around, even had its hands clasped....anc kicked feet, it was amazing !

but....they put me at 13.5 weeks and then they took loads of pics but only gave me one and filed the other ones. I don't know why they did this.

I then went to see the consultant who asked about blood tests for downs and turner, I am not able to get a nuchal in this hospital.

The head seemed to big according to midwive, i know i cant be 13.5 as my dates don't match and i know when we conceived.

Is it worth paying for a nuchal fold scan private or am i being paranoid and worried. Sorry to be such a worry wort, i was soo excited until they whipped most the pics away.

Do babies with downs develop quicker in first 12/13 weeks ?

hi hun i wouldnt worry the head always look huge to the body it will even out i think if there was anything to worry about a consulatant would have asked you to have a chat

I'm not too sure what to suggest, but I do know that the head always starts out bigger than the body..the body has to catch up. Do you have a pic to post? A Nuchal fold test is done between (I think) 11 and 14 weeks? Sorry I can't be much more help

I'm *pretty* sure that if they were worried about anything that they would have told you. I'm sure they aren't allowed to keep anything from you.

When we went for a BabyBond scan a few weeks ago at 15+4, the baby's head was measuring a week ahead at first, then when she re-did it it was about 5 days. She said it wasn't accurate though so it's not something to be concerned about. Everything evens out over the coming weeks for you so don't worry.

If you need to, just contact your MW.

Oh and welcome to 2nd Tri! :D

hi guys

i did see a consultant and the first thing they said was....do you want the blood tests, this is what paniked me....is this procedure.

Well, you have an option for the triple test so I'd imagine it's routine. :)

i wouldnt worry , i recon its cos there stingy , we only get one here unless we pay for them all !

Yeah its routine to as if you want it I think, I had the option but decided to decline. Did they say that they we're worried about the head size as the babys head is alot bigger earlier on and doesnt go into proportion until later on.

Hello honey!

I am glad that the baby is doing well, it must have been lovely to see him or her. I am sorry though that you have left with some worries. I am pretty sure that they would have told you if anything was wrong, I really am. I know it is hard, but try not to worry.

They took loads of pics of my baby too, but I only got to keep one.

The bloods thing is normal too, it isn't compulsory though. I haven't decided whether to do it or not. Knowing if there was a disibility wouldn't affect my feelings towards the baby, but I suppose it might be helpful to be prepared.

Anyway...you've been moved on, baby is alive and well, hopefully you will being to feel better soon and can enjoy second tri.

Reading your thread worried me slightly, as im kinda-ish the same...

i had a scan and was told i was 9 weeks

a week or so (no much) later i was scanned and told i was over 12 weeks.

Had a midwife appointment last week and was told 'deffinatly more than 15 weeks'

all i can say is babies grow at different rates, like in life, have groths spurts etc. I dont know how far gone i am at all (didnt have a period sinse hannah) but i seem to be having the quickest pregnancy ever!!

i alwasy demand they give me a few pics :rotfl: dont see why they need them in their files hehe

Ginny

When I had my scan, they put 'advanced bi pareital diameter' in my notes (basically a bigger head). I don't know what it means and I googled it and couldn't find anything sinister. I'm seeing the screening co-ordinator tomorrow and am gonna ask what it means and if it has any implications for the baby. Will let you know what they say.

  I doubt it's anything to worry about, I'm, sure they would have mentioned it otherwise

hi guys

I think you are right and thanks for your responses and sooo sorry if I have worried anyone. Basically my neighbour said the midwive should have gone through procedure, scan then antenatal but she didn't so I got a shock when seeing consultant, the only reason I think they mentioned downs test was because I was further on than they expected.
Yes, I reckon baby had a growth spurt, particulary since a had a surge of migraines, sickness and stretching pains and head grew a bit but rest of body needed to catch up, i dont think downs has anything to do with head but more the neck.
By gum, you get worried don't you and so attached, I am in love with my LO...I can't stop looking at the pic, big head or not.

p.s it is a running joke that all the men in my hubby's family have big potato heads, this is not true they just go bald early in life and are big men so have big heads.....the joke is the baby is a true member of our family with big head to match!!!! What will a big head do to my precious parts !!!!!!!!!!
