Hi all,

As above, today I am 10 weeks exactly. All day so far I have been experiencing lots of pulls and sharp nerve type pains in lots of different places in my pelvic area. I have had some pains shooting down my pubic bone as well as some in my sides (not bad but noticeable), and I have some really quite painful nerve pain in my left buttock. It doesn't shoot down my leg or up my back but runs through my left bum cheek and seems dependent on my position. It feels like sciatica but confined to the bum! It also sometimes hurts at the top of my bum (almost like my tailbone, but feels muscular/nervy) when I sit or lie down. I just wondered a) if this is normal? (I know sciatica is common during pregnancy but so early on??) and b) if anyone else was experiencing or had experienced the same thing at this stage?

First pregnancy so very nervous and not quite sure what to expect. By the way, none of the pains are crampy in any way.

Thanks in advance!

Lish xx

I can't really advise as such. I have a herniated disk that causes sciatica. I am only 5 weeks now but just before I found out I had another flare up. I still have slight sciatica though mine does go down my leg and is unbearably painful when it starts

The best thing you can do for sciatica is see a doc incase you may need safe pain relief if it gets worse.

And keep moving as much as possible. Walking etc. Mine is worse in the morning when I've been lying all night. I would def make an appointment just to get it checked out to make sure. It could just be a trapped nerve somehow.

Hopefully it's fleeting for you! X

I've had the exact same feelings for the past 2 weeks but it is in my right cheek! Im 13+1 today and was going to mention it to my midwife at the next appointment If it's still there. I did google pregnancy sciatica last night and it came up with some different exercises to try so I'm going to give that a go. I was thinking it may be because I'm on my feet 8 hours a day at work as that is when I feel it the most!

I have this!! It’s either sciatica or some relaxing of pelvic ligaments i think. Either way I thought it was far too early and worried about the state of my pelvis later on lol!!

I'm 8 weeks now..
last week I started feeling pains in my butt cheeks to and down my legs..
it was worse at night. I keep getting shooting pains to . I mentioned this to my gp he said it was not linked to the pregnancy. He said it sounded like sciatica, something to do with a nerve, and just to walk around .. mine comes and hoes

I had similar pain to what you are describing at around 9 weeks. The midwife said it is normal to have some lower back pain in the first trimester. I only had the pain for a couple of days...

Believe it or not it has been the only symptom I have had apart from sore breasts and really it could be due to anything, maybe I slept in a weird position.

I hope you're getting better now and that the pain goes away soon :)

I had that at around 9 weeks, ended up having 3 weeks off work as I was sick one morning which pulled it and I could barely move. It's fairly common just take it easy xxx

Thanks for all your replies ladies - it seems to have disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Maybe lasted 3 days all in all :)

Moral of the story = Nothing to worry about! xx

And as quickly as I've said it's gone - it's back! Haha... took the dogs out for a stomp... now my RIGHT bum cheek is twinging. Must be to do with exercise...?

I've had the exact same feeling when I was pregnant with my first child. Now we are waiting for our second baby and I don't have such problems
