for about the last few hours i have had a really bad pain in the small of my back on the left side. it is agony! i didnt have it when i woke up but it came on suddenly. i cant bend down and can hardly walk i keep getting sharp pains in my back down the left side of my bum  could it be laying on a nerve or something?

sounds like you could have trapped a nerve to me. I would make a docs appt if I was you.

Hope you feel better soon

im getting ready to move in with my OH tomorrow and its been really painful moving the bags i bend down and get a shooting pain and literally cant move i have to either try and straighten myself up or try and lower myself onto the floor it hurts even to lift my leg up

yes - afraid so - def sounds like you have trapped a nerve. I used to do it quite often, had a problem with my spine as a teenager. Stop lifting and moving stuff and rest honey, is not worth doing your self an injury - leave it to your OH to move you in.

Hope the pain eases up for you real soon vicki1983
And as topbird says, rest up, don't be overdoing it.

Best Wishes

As the others have said take it easy and put your feet up (i know it's hard when you have things to do, my OH tells me to take it easy and i never do! and he moans lol) but you really don't want to make it even more painful, then be able to nothing...

Rest up anf enjoy moving in with your OH congrats :cheer: x

Hi

I agree rest and dont do too much!
People always say it to me and i dont listen either .
Hope it eases for you soon hun and good luck with your move
Katrina

how long do trapped nerves take to get better? i was resting it most of the afternoon and it seemed better i was very careful when i did have to move. that was until my dad sent me out for the chips and i literally took about 20 mins to walk a normally 5 min walk! and now its back with a vengeance

Rest up. Don't go exerting yourself or else that nerve is never going to get better. :(

Sometimes it can take a few days of resting before it improves. You can take paracetemol if it's bad but if that's the case best get checked by the doc.

i took a couple of paracetamol earlier but it didnt really help that much the only thing that makes it feel better is rest but the thing with that is as soon as i put pressure on it its twice as bad as it was to begin with it seems better when i keep it mobile

How about a hot water bottle or a soak in the bath. Do you think that might help? It sounds rotten :(

i did have a bath earlier but again that didnt really help much, the problem is its not my back as such its more the left side of my bum lol  and just down the top part of my leg so it hurts basically every time i walk or put pressure on that leg. earlier i bent down and i literally was stuck like that it was a really bad sharp pain right the way down and i couldnt straighten up so had to really slowly lower myself onto the floor lol

Hi

aww hun hope its better tom, if not maybe phone your doctor and ask what you can do for it?
Katrina

You have just described my pain exactly! i went to docs but she didnt really know what it was. she said i might have to have physio but i said i'd rather not, just manage it myself. she gave me some movelat (sp) which has analgesic in it, it works sometimes. i tend not to do anything too physical at the mo and i dont really get it. I only really get it now when i pick my fatty of a nephew up.

I am afraid it can take a week or longer of rest to get back to normal. One time I trapped a nerve in my lower back, it took 6 weeks.
Lie on your other side so as to not put pressure on it and put a hot water bottle where it hurts, as recommended.

I would go to the docs and see if you can get some physio if it is really bad, as there are some exercises you can do to help release it, but I will not attempt to explain them as you could do more harm than good if I give you some duff instructions. It would be better if you get professional advice.

it seems to have gone now i feel much better, i get the odd twinge if i put too much pressure on that one leg but laying down and walking are fine now which im pleased about

Oh good - glad you are feeling better - just take it easy for a few days, just to be on the safe side. x
