my son has just turned 10 months old, he will only eat 4+ month old food, basically anything thats pureed .... he wont eat anything that has little lumps, etc ....... anyone got any advice?

Will he eat finger foods and things? If you can get him used to eating thing here lumps will break off so he gets used to swallowing more than just smooth food it might help - Sam was funny with lumps in food at first but he was ok with sticks of steamed veg, little sandwich fingers etc - and pasta when he got a bit older x

he'll take a quaver and eat it, he likes holding a carrot stick and sucking it, little finger food biscuits ( from asda, baby ones, think they r banana ). I've let him taste some roast beef .. he took a bit off it and managed to eat it, he's took a little bit of mashed potato & gravy ...... i am really lost and worried ... is the 4+ month stuff still giving him what he needs as he is on weaning milk too ? xx

I honestly have no idea - I'm sure someone who knows far more than I do will be along soon! Maybe you could start just giving him bits of whatever you're eating? I think it's not uncommon for them to dislike lumps in something that's quite smooth but to be ok when most of it is lumps if that makes sense? When I started making Sam's food less smooth he used to spend hour with a spoonful in his mouth carefully sorting out the lumps with his tongue and spitting those out but he'd eat the rest :wall:

he spits it back out at me or eventually swallows it but then refuses to take the rest and gets himself into such a state that he is sometimes sick because he has worked himself up so much x

I think if it was me I'd give finger foods just for him to play with inbetween meals then slowly start giving at meals just for him to het used to it xx

Hun, my son was EXACTLY the same. I bought the 7+ and 10+ months jars and blended them so they were smooth so he was getting bigger quantities.

He was always fine with rice cakes, but other things he just gagged and be really really sick, it was really distressing.

One time though my mum gave him a digestive biscuit, and he loved it so much and from there he seemed to start chewing properly.

One day I noticed he was chewing his smooth food and so just started offering it normal without blending and he was fine. he still had set backs and refused to eat lumpy things sometimes, but generally he was ok.

At about 10.5 months he was fine with normal food. He is really fussy though.

He now eats bananas, sandwiches, lumpy food jars, oaty bars, pears etc.

His diet is pretty limited though as most things he tries that we eat he doesn't like!

Just keep going hun, follow his lead. He will eat lumps when he is ready. They defo all get there in the end. Just offer him normal food, but blend it up first so he can get used to the stronger tastes etc

xxxxxx
