My LO is 10 months and has does not babble. I'm happy with her development in every other way. I spoke to my HV and she said there is nothing that can be done and to speak to her if she is still not babbling in a couple months. I felt a bit annoyed as I felt she should be checked if there is a physical reason rather than waiting. Anybody got any experience of there baby not babbling?

None hun but babies all have their own preferences and they develop at different rates, she might not be a 'talker' but be more physically advanced with what she's doing. I know my Lo at his 8 month check wasn't getting into a crawling position as expected but he suddenly started doing it a month later. She might have the skill she's just not shown it yet.

I don't have any experience on the talking front, but like pumpkin said they do all develop at very different rates, despite what people will tell you is normal.

My son was late to crawl and walk. He didn't crawl until he was about a year and didn't walk until he was about 18m. I had the inlaws panicking from about 9 months why wasn't he moving, and I must admit there were a few times I worried something might be wrong. But as soon as he started walking there was no holding him back and now you really would not know as he can dart off away from me like a shot!

I really wouldn't worry about looking for physical problems just now. Just try to do as much as you can to encourage her, do lots of singing and talking away to her, even just when you're out and about, doing day to day jobs.

We spend the first 18 months tryna get them to talk, and the next 18 years tryna get them to shut up.
(Stolen quote from somewhere I forgot).

My two year old says "muma", "dada", "buh-ba", "gah-gee" (thank you), and has just started "uhn, ooh, ghee" (one two three).

She'll talk when she's ready.

She may barely babble at all, and suddenly come out with a sentence of legit words.
She may suddenly babble for no reason (probably middle of the night, top of her voice).

I wouldn't worry yet awhile, hon xx

We were in the same boat as littlemonkey - our lg babbles/chatted loads but didn't even roll over til she was 7m, crawled at 11.5m and walked at 16.5m so a little on the late side

I do think she was developing more vocally, and now at 17m has quiet a decent vocabulary for her age, but still wobbly on foot whereas mates little girl is same age and is running about (has been since about 1!) but barely says a word!

Try not to worry, easer said than done :-) xxx

I too had a little one that didn't make many sounds, I don't think we heard him babble at all, he would say vowel sounds copying but never independently. He was much more physically advanced for his age;, crawled at 6 months, cruising at 9 months and proper walking at 10 months. He didn't really start saying any words till 18 months. And up till 18 months we were quite worried as nothing came out his mouth really!

And now at nearly 2 he says loads and can manage three word sentences. I wouldn't worry yet. As long as he seems well I'm other ways.

I think the health visitors do a thorough check at a year so that will highlight any concerns based on all their development, x

My child focused on wanting to get up and have monkey business. He focused on getting up and wanting to walk only recently he started babbling and saying more. He now has his own language he's talking in and he's 1,5 and i'm not concerned at all!! There isn't anything you can do, aside from the usual stimulation if that's not making anything happen am sure your little one hasn't had the leap yet where they then want to do it on their own initiative.

They're all so different. My two are completely different. My son is 13 months and we're lucky if we get a "mamama" or a "dadada", although we do finally have some babbling going on! In contrast, by 13 months our daughter had a number of words (including bizarre ones like "ceiling"!) and by 16 months was stringing two words together ("good girl"). However, she didn't bear weight on her legs until 17 months and didn't walk until 19 months old. Our son has been up on his feet for a while now and is cruising around furniture and walking holding our hands. It's swings and roundabouts.

I personally don't think you have anything to worry about. I think it makes sense to wait to the 1 year check as it's likely she'll be babbling by that point, even if she doesn't have any particular words.
