seriously? no recipes? I dont even know how to make mulled wine :brat:

yay thanks :) we're going to my parents this year but I want to turn up with stuff for them, as they do so much for us!

Ingredients:
2 Oranges
2 bottles red wine
1 bottle white wine
1 6cm piece of root ginger peeled and thinly sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
5 tablespoons of demerara sugar (or to your taste)
4 tablespoons of brandy (optioinal)

Prep:
Use a sharp knife or a vegetable peeler to remove the zet from the oranges in strops, being careful to remove only the orange part,. leaving the pith behind, Then, juice the oranges into a large, heavy-bottomed pot.

Pour the red wine and white wine into the pot with the orange juice. Place the strips of orange zest, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cloves and sugar into the pot with the wine mixture; stir to dissolve the sugar,

Cover and heat over a medium-high heat until heated through, but not boiling. reduce the heat to medium-low and heat for an hour or longer to bring the flavours together.

Adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar if necessary. Strain and serve hot with a splash of brandy if desired!!

MMMMh booze

IMPORTANT: PREPARE THIS THE DAY BEFORE YOU WANT TO EAT THE CAKE!!!

Ingredients:

Knob of butter for greasing
170g/6oz plain chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
5 free-range eggs, separated
225g/8oz sugar
284ml/10fl oz double cream

prep:

preheat oven to 180c/350f/gas mark 4
Prepare a swiss roll tin by greasing it with butter and then lining it with a piece of greaseproof paper slightly larger than the tin

gently melt the chocolate in a glass bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water
beat the egg yolks into the sugar
when choc has cooled and melted a little, pour it into the egg yolk/sugar mixture.
beat egg whites into stiff peaks, before folding into the chocolate mix
pour the mix into the tin and bake in the oven for 15-20 mins, until firm to touch- you will know it's done by poking it with a knife and the knife comes out clean!
Run a tea towel under cold water and wring it out
Place the tea towel over the choc roulade once it has cooled a little, after 10 minutes remove the tea towel, transfer roulade to the fridge and leave overnight.
The next day, sieve icing-sugar over a sheet of greaseproof paper which is slightly bigger than the tin.
Tip the cake out onto the fresh greaseproof paper and peel off the other piece of greaseproof paper from the top of the roulade.
Whip the double cream and spread over the roulade
Roll up the roulade, using the greaseproof paper to help hold it together. It might crack a bit (but that just makes it look like a more authentic log) lol
I break up bits of chocolate over the top too.

I'll add a pic in a sec.
