Working mums - Which benefits?

To all you working mummies to be... I have no clue what benefits we are entitled to apart from Child benefit? I haven't even applied for that yet.....

what are we entitled to and where do we apply?

Erm, I run my own business but I will be a single mummy .......again. I am entitled to Matermity Allowance which is the same as Stat Maternity. If you are employed by an emloyer you need to get your Mat B signed by your midwife (she'll give this to you) and give to your Employer so you can get that. You should then get working tax credit (depending on your circumstances for work and wages and if your partner earns). Like you said Child benefit and also Child Tax Credit. If you go on the Government website it will tell you the Bens you are entitled to and also it will have PDF's for you to fill out and send off too. If you need help with housing if you are a single parent you will get help with that too. Think that's right. The majority is on http://www.direct.gov.uk

Looks like lots of things are being stopped and reduced as well! I've just noticed that you don't get any extra child tax if you have a baby under 1 now. What a bunch of @ssholes this Government have turned out to be really. They've penalised families a lot!

ahh! That's excellent, thank you! Ive got the MATB1 form done and dusted and signed from work ect......I shall check out that website and look into it..

yes this government sucks! My jobs terms and conditions are all changing in july and I will be getting less money, it's all pretty scary x Thanks again xx

I know you get a bounty pack from the hospital after you give birth that includes all forms and info on what you can apply for - ive been waiting for that really x

im self employed to but if u call ur job center they can help, I called Fri and they sending me out everything i need give that a try x

once the baby is born after you have registered the birth you can claim child benefit child tax credit and working tax credits as for maternity pay it all depends on what package your work has set up i think

You can't claim for anything until after baby is born anyway so no hurry! If you claim WTC to top up your income you can apply for a Surestart Maternity Grant if it;s your first baby xx
