This is a story on the Wales BBC website (I haven't included link because I'm not sure if links are allowed on this forum)

The story goes that a forty year old woman was told she was starting the menopause by her doctor only to return home and give birth. She experienced periods, which apparently was blood from the placenta, and she only put on 1 pound in weight!! She also had no symtoms whatsoever.

Although cases like this are rare it does give me abit of hope!
I've started suffering with depression because of this baby making lark and this is one of the reasons why i'm not on the forum so much. I still check in occasionally to read who has bfps and i'm still rooting for a few of you.
Baby dust to us all

Hi Notty - I saw this story in the news too being a fellow Swansea person! It gave me hope too. Sorry you are feeling depressed hun  I think everyone seems to be going through a hard time at the moment. You know Im always here if you fancy a chat about anything.

Hope you are ok and that you get your BFP soon hun, ill be so pleased when I see your announcement!

yep i saw this!

and if i remember rightly - it was a baby that was over 9lb's in weight!

I've heard a lot of stories like this. I hope I don't offend anyone, but to be honest I think some of these women who don't know they're pregnant until they give birth have to be on drugs or something- to be so out of touch with their bodies that they don't notice anything. I realize there would be other reasons as well, I just don't understand how a healthy woman could go through a whole pregnancy without noticing anything :? Very interesting anyway, and what a shock for that woman

**edit ooooh 6 months pregnant, I guess maybe she wasn't heaps big then... poor thing must've got the shock of her life!

It was a very strange story. The woman was 40 yrs old and had gone to the Doctor who told her that her odd cycles and pains were the onset of menopause. Didnt do any urine or blood tests obviously and sent her on her way. Then she was in agony at home and gave birth in her bathroom, much to her and her husbands shock. She had given birth 3 months early, which I suppose does explain the not knowing she was pregnant a bit more. The baby was in hospital for a while but is out now and healthy.

I can believe it happens - in my case I was sure I was still pregnant although I had bleeding and everyone including my GP kept on telling me it was my hormones..... The outcome a scan in December that showed a fetus of approx 12 - 14 weeks in my stomach cavity - I had strange pregnancy tests over the 4 months, sometimes they were very faint and others not there at all .......

Its the most shocking thing to happen to someone - I really hope this lady is OK.

I can well believe it happens. It can be difficult for a TTCer to imagine I guess with all the symptom spotting!

Apart from very young girls in denial, the couple of real life cases of this I know about were both older women who already had children so knew what pregnancy felt like.

If you only put on 1lb and don't show I imagine some other medical mystery may well be at work to ensure you don't get any other symptoms either.

Enough to make you POAS daily! Scary stuff  :rotfl:

I once worked with a woman who got to 8 months pg without knowing.

She had PCOS and was very overweight with irregular periods. She and her husband had been TTC for years, and finally got referred for IVF, but the consultant wouldn't start IVF till she'd lost at least 3 stone. The poor woman was dieting and walking everywhere, but still the weight wouldn't come off fast enough - she was going for checkups every 3 months for a year and they said she was still too big, and her cycles were still irregular - she was getting very light and erratic bleeding. Finally they did a scan because the consultant wondered if maybe it was a particularly big cyst. Instead, they found a particularly big baby. It was born 3 weeks later, weighing 10lbs. The woman had quite dramatic weight loss that week...

She was of course thrilled, but slightly miffed that she'd missed out on the pregnancy that she'd been looking forward to for so many years!

I also have a family friend who was sure she was pregnant but had 'periods' all the way through her pregnancy, and who didn't show at all until just before the birth, because of the way the baby was lying against her spine. The doctor refused to believe she was pg and kept telling her to go away and take an indigestion remedy... This was 20 years ago, though, before HPTs and scans were available.

Another friend got to 6 months without knowing - but to be fair, she had gone through 2 unsuccessful rounds of IVF, after TTC for several years, then been put on a 5-year waiting list for adoption, and became very depressed. She'd put on weight, become lethargic, felt anxious, emotional and miserable... and when those symptoms worsened, it never occurred to her or her doctor that she could have conceived naturally. It was only when her belly became distinctly bump-shaped as opposed to flabby that her doctor thought to do a pg test. She'd had sporadic bleeding too.

These cases are rare though. But they show miracles do happen

My friend had her first scan yest and they told her she was 20weeks and 2 days!!!! She only recently did a test but she was ttc and goodness only knows how she managed to get that far and not realise! I can barely make it through the 2ww before I test!

i know two people who this has happened to.

1. my mates auntie, she woke up in the night with seriously painful back pains, they rushed her to hospital and they realised she was actually having contractions!!!

2. a lass i went to school with, last year woke up in the night with terrible stomach cramps, it was that bad she was scrunched up on the floor, shouted her mum in and her mum realised she was giving birth!!!

 scary!

I didn't catch on til I was in 2nd tri
I had morning sickness, but I have always had a dodgy stomach, and a tendency to chuck up at the least notice, like if I'm just hot or something. And I have always had irregular periods. Then I started suspecting, but thought I was being stupid because I was always very careful :wall: oh well

I had a friend who was told she probably wouldnt be able to have children because of problems she had, she was a bit over weight already, but started gaining weight, her periods stopped and she had alot of back ache she did tests all negative and went to her doctor many times who was pretty much useless from what I heard. Eventually on a trip home to see her mum in South Africa she went to see her family doctor and he immediately confirmed she was 6 months pregnant!! After being so upset to be told she would probably never have children they were obviously very shocked but happy and decided to get married before returning home. So she went out unmarried thinking she couldnt have children and returned Married and 6 months pregnant!!!

Penstraze that is a really lovely story
