Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has ever spoken to a doctor or Midwife about drinking wine whilst pregnant. I've given it up completely but fancy creamy garlic and wine pasta for dinner tomorrow. I did some online research and a lot of people say the alcohol evaporates once you heat it. Today I bought alcohol free wine which Is 0.05%. Would it be safe to eat once heated? My friend drank alcohol free cider whilst pregnant but I don't really see the point. I have tasted some before I got pregnant and didn't enjoy the flavour. However, I am really craving this dinner and just not sure if it's safe? X

Yeah, it will be evaporated out :) can look on google, it'll probably tell you how and everything xx

I had alcohol free cider over Xmas and New Years, it actually tasted really nice and I didn't feel like I was missing out so much :)

But I should think that even with ordinary wine you'll cook out all of the alcohol. Even if a bit remained it would be so tiny in the meal overall that it would have no affect on baby whatsoever.

You'll be fine.. Although I have never drunk personally every midwife I've seen has said you're allowed to drink a little wine when pregnant so cooking with non-alcoholic wine will do no damage lol xx

Thanks ladies. My place of work has made me a little paranoid about FASD and I know they now recommend no alcohol consumption before and during pregnancy (after if BF). However, I just read this ' a normal glass of fresh orange juice can naturally contain up to 0.5% alcohol. Malt vinegar you put on your chips is about 0.2% alcohol'. So I think 0.05% is safe as I have a glass of calcium enriched OJ every morning. I have an appointment with a nurse today to arrange my four jab so I will mention it to her too x

my midwife told me alcohol was fine just not in excess, ive had a couple of shandys through my pregnancy and a lot of people dont realise they are pregnant and smoke drink and party like they always have done.

dont worry too much - i had creamy garlic mushrooms and used a glass of white wine cooking makes the alcohol reduce anyway

enjoy! just dont get trollied!

Agree, I think if you worry too much you'll never eat or drink anything!! x

they used to tell pregnant women to drink half a Guinness to get the iron levels up.. all in moderation i think

Absolutely fine to cook with alcohol or non alcoholic wine! I bought a bottle of non alcoholic wine to drink (friends are over and I had to do something to kid on so decanted it into an actual wine bottle). If it can be drunk straight then your cooking will take any alcohol out of it, don't worry x

My first reaction when I saw the title of this post was .. "yes please!!"

Haha! I do miss a glass well ..a bottle on a Friday night with a takeaway! Heh. It annoys me when we go out and everyone orders alcohol and I'm say there like yay... can't even have coke :( lmao it's worth it though x

I'd think it would be ok? I'd use it in cooking.. hell I might even have the odd sip. But then I'm quite relaxed about that sort of thing. Obvs wouldn't go mental etc
