Will baby's scratching leave a scar?

A couple of days ago I noticed my three week old daughter had red scratches all over the sides of her face. After that we clipped her nails but one scratch is still visible, though it is less red. In the light it appears to be white and if I move my knuckle over the scratch I feel it is slightly elevated. So I am worried it will leave a permanent scar. How can I tell?

There wasn't any blood or anything and it didn't seem like it was a deep scratch but does there need to be blood for it to become a scar? Should I put some ointment on it or should I just leave it alone?

I am worried because I don't want her to have scars in the face. Has anyone's baby ever scratched his or her face that hard that it left a permanent scar?

I very much doubt it will do permanent damage. Most babies scratch their faces, do you use scratch mits?
My lo have himself nasty scratches at times but you'd never know now x

Don't worry it will be fine. Babies skin is very sensitive at such a young age so scratches look worse than they actually are. I guarantee you it will not scar, in fact it will probably be completely gone in a few days.

Alex has given himself some really horrible scratches on his face, but I think they bother me far more than they bother him, and they always disappear.

We tried scratch mits but he always managed to get them off. We then tried socks on his hands because they went further up his arms so he couldn't get them off, but having his hands covered seemed to distress him more than the scratching so in the end we just let him get on with it. We keep his nails as short as possible, but he still manages it :wall2:
