A period known as Aunt Flow?

I've always wondered, just tried googling it but couldn't make any sense.....

I suppose maybe the person who thought it up didn't like their Aunt Flow?

Or flow could be just what it says?

I don't know either who came up with the name,supose everyone just
goes with the flow


My dh calls mine the crimson tidal wave

I presumed it meant flow of blood, which is pretty foul really!
