When it snows a bit?!

Honestly I have been in work this morning to cover our emergency snowline and over 150 local schools are closed. Evie's nursery is shut so now I've had to come home from work.

I've driven past her nursery twice so far today and the bloody roads are clear.
:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

I know it's completely ridiculous. It's not as though it wasn't forecast!

Where I live they are used to snow, and very well kitted out for it. Nothing ever stops here :D

I guess maybe they just close all the schools as a precaution? I don't know......

Nothing ever seems to stop here in Aberdeenshire. They are pretty well organised and get the ploughs and gritters out in time.

When I lived in Plymouth all the schools would shut, and the bus service stop even if there was a light sprinkling. They just weren't geared up for it.

its so silly When i worked in the Alps the French and Swizz managed to get through worse snow on the roads then weve ever seen

im in a strop so im going out in it im pissed off with being stuck at home :shakehead:

stupid snow

Nothing stops here!!! I laugh so much when you see the news and the south of England get a "load" of snow and driving conditions are dangerous blah blah blah.... I am usually sat shouting at the TV... "the roads are black and you can still see the grass is green so that aint alot of snow!!"

It's so funny innit  Has to be at least 2 feet here before they think of closing the schools. In 2006 it got as far as there being next to no staff and kids in the school by 10am cos they were all stuck or the kids had stayed home... yet still it stayed open

If so much as a milmetre of snow falls in cornwall, its panic alert!!! :rotfl:

it just never happens so when it does, every one stands scratching thier heads tryin to work it out!!!!

When I lived in Bude, I remeber once we got a 2inchs of snow, it hit the local newpapers as it was such a rareity!! :rotfl:
(salt sea air and snow dont mix!)

It took me over 2 hours to drive the 4 miles to work this morning. Walking/waddling there would be quicker. I think the problem is that nobody here has the right tyres, as winter tyres seem to be unheard of over here, and a lot of people have no idea how to drive in these conditions, so just happily skid away.

I know what you mean! :wall: I had to call the school up this morning to make sure they were open! But as the kids knew there was a chance it would be shut (school sent a letter home yesterday) they were playing up a bit this morning!

My DH is absolutely astonished at the 4000 homes without electricity report because its snowed... He is Finnish though and the snow can be near 2m deep with a temp of -30º.... He did say the infrastructure in terms of electricity cabling must be atrocious and that the British people are being robbed paying all that money for electricity :x

I usually get sent home from work when it snows  (when I'm not on mat leave). I'm a delivery driver and they are so scared we are going to have an accident they don't send us out!
