Hi all,
just wanted to start a 'testing in the first week of the new year' thread.
Long story but I don't have to wait to TTC after my immunisation at all. Being an immunologist by profession, I phoned the Dr and had a long discussion with him and to end result was there's no reason to wait! (although I wouldn't say this covers anyone else for immunisations, they're all different and always check with GP first).
So, both me and FF think I'm due to OV @ end ofthis week, so my fertile days officially start tomorrow!!
Me and DH have already BD'ed firday night and last night. Getting into the every other day thing. Will just get OV in before we are going down to my parents for Christmas, so good timing.
I should be due AF on 6th Jan, but I'll probably start testing from New Year's Day.
Anyone else in a similar situation?

i'm due to OV on saturday and due AF on the 6th too. Its prob all wrong though because i just came off the pill and i'll probably have screwy cycles for a while ^_^

ovulating, is that when you have a period or when you produce your egg?!?

how do you know when this happens, i am so confused by all this, all i know is that i have a period once a month and thats it!!!

god i must sound so stupid!! but if anyone could help me - greatly appreciated

im not due to ovualte till the 27th , kinda hope i do a bit early as im ment to go to my mums on the 28th without hubby lol , saying that ill just be happy to ovulate at all ! ff test date will be around the 11th . which is cutting it close consierding my gynea appointment is the 11th lol

Miss gobby: Ovulating is when an egg is released. When this happens is different for each person, but generally speaking its 14days before your period (cycle day 14 if you have a 28 day cycle). Day 1 of your cycle is the first day of your period.

At least, that's what i think. I could be wrong ^_^ I'm sure someone who knows more will post soon. And you dont sound stupid, i didnt have a clue until i came here either ^_^

Hi

Ovulating happens 14 days before the start of your next period. You can tell you are ovulating by looking for a white discharge in your underwear. It sort of looks like egg whites. Some women notice it and others dont. I suppose you have to be looking for it.

When you ovulate your body releases an egg which in turn, if fertilised, will turn into a little life and in turn a bfp.

Theres no point just having sex if you are seriously trying for a baby. You have to have a rough idea when you ovulate so you can be sure to have sex at the right time.

Sperm can live for up to 5 days so if you had sex 5 days before ovulating when your egg is released you could get lucky BUT its best to have sex closer and around the 14 day mark to make sure you have sperm waiting to fertilise your egg when it is released. The egg last for something like 12 hrs i think so you have to be ready.

After you have ovulated there is little chance of fertilising the egg so best to have sex up to and around the 14 days.

Does that make sense?

Im due to AF on 2nd Jan, I roughly go by a 30 day cycle and predict my AF due on that basis, but sometimes it can be up to 5 days either way!

Im assuming im OV'ing around the next few days (never have a clue when I ov!) but we have vowed to BD atleast every other day all through this month, going well so far!

cool to have so many cycle buddies!!
Just to add that the CM around ovulation is more clear than white (although everyone's different, so don't take my word for it!!), and is supposed to look like raw egg whites (very stretchy!). Although, I don't really get much of it at any time, I have to be very observant!!
Also, not everybody will ovulate 14 days before their next AF. It can vary from approx 10 to 16 I think (but these are just approximate days).
I'm upping the No. of OPKs I do per day from one to two this week, to make sure I catch my LH surge (the increase in the hormone that causes ovulation).
Will be watching this thread, everyone make sure you post when you get your ovulation signs, and what they are. Looking at my last cycle (keep a diary!!) I started getting abdominal twinges at day 24 (which is today!), so I'm on the lookout.

I think I should have just ovulated a few days ago, so will probably test around the 29th/30th.... A bit confused about my cycle after the M/C though. I used to have 36 day cycle, but last one was 26 days only... so a bit confused really!

TMI sorry, but...I'm actually having some CM today (haven't had any for the past week or so) and possible heavy/crampy feelings in my lower right hand side. So I'm hoping these are the lead up to OV.
Off to do my OPK now (my pee will have cooled to room temp, I know, sad and gross at the same time!!).

I didn't know pee had to be at room temp for testing...I've always just tested when its fresh and warm! TMI sorry

Didn't seem to matter.....well I hope not anyway else my dates are ALL WRONG (sigh)..

Hi Chellieboo,
Different OPKs might have different recommendations, this is only my first month using them so I've just done what it says in the instructions that were sent with them. It says to allow the pee and test packet to get to room temp before testing. It recommends 20 minutes, so I leave it in the plastic cup in the cupboard in the bathroom!!!
Yours might be different so don't worry. Even if they're not, I'm sure it won't make any difference to the result (dont' even know why I do it really!).
Anyway, it was still negative, which is ok cause I'm not expecting ov till a bit later in the week. I just hope that I get a positive at some point otherwise I'm going to be really p****d off!!
How long have u been using them?

this is 2nd month....1st month opk pos cd18, this month opk pos cd17.

used ebay cheapies last month and combination of ebay cheapies and clearblue digital this month (cb just to confirm what i thought was a pos was actually pos).
