Whooping Cough Vaccine

Hi ladies,

For those of you in the second trimester who have had the whooping cough vaccine did you find that it was like the flu vaccine in that it can make you unwell or was it OK? Mine is booked for next week but I have been feeling quite poorly with a cold and wondering if it is best to hold off or get it done asap? Thanks

I had mine last year, it didn't make me ill at all but gave me a really dead arm for a few days! Xx

The whooping cough vaccine doesn't have flu in it. It has pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, polio and diphtheria. So you can't get flu from it!

I did get a dead arm though!

I was fine - no dead arm either. But you might find they ask you to postpone if you're unwell. See how you feel on the day, but I don't think it's wise to have any vaccine if you're unwell. Might be worth mentioning on the day if you're not sure?

How dead is this arm? I mean can I still type in my day job or is it an arm sling situation? Haha. Fun and games ladies. Yeah I'll see how I go over the weekend and check with the GP. No point having a wasted journey

You reminded me I need to get this booked! I had a dead arm too with the flu vaccine and nothing more. I remember it being achy and slightly numb if I tried to lift it above my head, but I still managed to work the rest of my 12hr shift and come back the next day so definitely wasn't anything bad xx

Haha it was a pain (literally!) but I still managed to struggle on at work! My only mistake was to do it at 5pm on a Friday before my weekend off

Yeah mine was painful and dead, not sure that makes sense haha! Not totally dead, I could use mine it just hurt to lift it at all. I didn't think the injection hurt though, unlike the anti D one which stung like a *****

I was quite poorly after mine with my first pregnancy, but I react to the Polio, Tetanus and Diptheria vaccine and unfortunately this is what it's given with. I'm just an anomaly though. Most people seem to just have a sore arm.

I got the vaccine on Tuesday and apart from arm feeling a little achy, I felt fine

My midwife told me that many GPs are doing it before 20 weeks so I asked my GP and they offer it from 16. I booked it in more so I wouldn't forget about it rather than anything else!
