who watched bringing up baby? I thought it was good but really hated the b****y 1950's woman- don't think I'll be doing that leave them outside strict thing- :x what did everyone else think???

Tried to but people kept calling and I'm in the middle of packing :(

i couldnt leave lil one outside alone , i do think its good to get alot of fresh air but id be with them

i could alsp not kiss or cuddle

think i like bits from all years?

I watched it - enjoyed seeing the different view points but couldnt follow one religiously - have alwasy been a flexible parent - dh works nights and operates so cant afford to be tired so have always slept in the nursery and fed on demand overnight to keep the house quiet, often leave the baby outside in the pram alone (cos my mum did) but always have a door open, pop in and out and would always go to the baby if crying, love the sling idea but with 3 other children aged 2,4 and 5 wouldnt be fair on them not to be able to cuddle them properly etc, plus school run 2 1/2 hours everyday and wouldnt be happy cooking with a baby so near so dont see how that is practical :)

as for that poor older stepsister who wasnt allowed to cuddle her new baby sister - that's really going to help their relationship isn't it!!!

i think im more with the 60s dr spock version... was liek that with charlotte.. best to go with your own feelings.. she slept inbed with me or moses basket and slept all night from 7 weeks. i think the sling ones a bit ott.. but see the point of it.. and would like to take bits from that concept

the 1950's womans talking shi* sorry to anyone who thought she was great, or that she works... how cruel.. goes against everything a woman feels.. you need to bond with the baby.. and the only woman who has cried on the 1st day is that mum...babys need to be ignored, and left all day on their own..what a load of crap! she hasnt even got any kids.. so her opinions hardly valid in my view.. she just seems like a selfish woman. and in my own personal opinion. anyone who follows her concept rigidly..dont seem like they should have kids.. if they are going to be to much hassle.

I was too tired to stay up and watch it  but we taped it and will watch it soon. I only saw first 10mins and have to agree so far about the fifties woman

 Pants!! I missed it! Is it repeated does anyone know :?

Yep I saw it too, 1950's woman was awful, I felt it was really cruel & could never leave my baby outside for 3 hours a day on its own. Apart from anything, its just not safe to do that sort of thing these days even if it is your own back garden. You don't know what sort of nutters are about

And to not cuddle or give eye contact to your baby, think its a load of sh*te.

I think we all feel the same about the 1950's woman- I think that children need the rules and routines as they get a bit older when their cognitive ability and emotional capacity can deal with what is being asked of them. I really think that the 1950's woman doesn't even like kids- she kept calling the baby who's name was Mia 'IT' and to think that a newborn was holding parents 'ransom' is utterly ridiculous! I have to say that woman got me soooo angry- how could anyone only touch their baby @ 3am, 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm -6 TIMES PER DAY and when doing so keep them at arms length without making eye contact!!!!
All of the children that woman has "HELPED" will prob be emotionally void and prob slightly disturbed. If anyone agreed with her method, I apologise if I offend but I would so strongly feel that this "method" is WRONG. RANT RANT RANT !!!!!-(sorry)

i think a happy medium of the three-

a little bit of fresh air, a basic routine, breast feedings, love, using a sling and following what you feel right :)

I agree, the 50's one was way too extreme - why even have a child if the minute the baby arrives you want nothing to do with it and to get on with your own life, I felt so sorry for the babys sister - her instinct is telling her to hug her new baby sister and she is not allowed

Like combination of the other two myself.

Morning girls

I totally agree the 1950's woman is horrible! I dont think she has any right to comment as she has no children of her own. Its like saying that babies are an inconvieience and that the quicker they are in a routine the better it will be for you - well what a load of ****. I for one will love my baby so much and it will get loads of cuddles & love. Of course we will have a routine but not like that.

Great programme though!

That Woman Should Be Shot. I Love The Way She Had That Stupid Smirk On Her Face As If To Say .. "God Im Brilliant Arnt I".. When In Actual Fact She Was By Far The Worst Baby Carer I Have Ever Seen. Silly Cow Knew Nothing... Apart From Mastering The Art Of Child Cruelty. Idiot

Yep I think we all agree the 50's method women is a turd and not even a mother so rule out anything she says.

And like someone said earlier every baby is different and to take bits from all is a good plan.

Go with your own instinct girlies ! :)

I've seen those NSPCC adverts... you know the one where the little boy is standing in his cot with the empty bottle and the voice over that says something like...

Miles is a quite baby, he knows that when he cries no one will come...etc..

Isn't that the same thing?

yeah... tbh.. i think the concept is cruel.. how anyone can pay her 1k for 1 day is beyond me.. its neglect in my opinion.

I agree with a routine but not leave a new born for 12 hours in a room and not even go to them once. my god how cruel  The poor babys will grow up feeling unloved.
And to leave them in the cold for 4 hours  poor little things, they could die of the cold.
Mind you i dont think its good for them to sleep in the same bed as you, i would roll over and squash it
