I am a bit worried about my really long cycles so I was going to make an appointment with a really nice female doctor at my practice who specialises in women's health. I called today to make an appointment but she has left! I am gutted! The other female doctor is an absolute cow so I don't want to see her.

I used to go to the family planning clinic to get my pill so I wondered if I should go there just to chat to someone about it and see what they suggest? On the website it says:

SERVICES
Contraceptive advice including coils and implants.
Emergency contraception.
Telephone advice.
Pregnancy tests .
Advice on sexual problems.
Advice on infections and tests.
Cervical smear tests.
Health advice for getting pregnant.
Psychosexual counselling.

Is this the right place to go do you think or just make an appointment at my practice?

This seems to fit your bill hun so make an appointment!

Best of luck!

xxxxxxxx

I agree, seems to be about right. Good luck with it hun and let us know how you get on xxx

It's a drop in place so I am going to go on Friday afternoon, I am a bit nervous though!

you'll be fine hun, my friend used to only have a period once every six months and the doc said there was nothing wrong with her just had extra long cycles!!! mad isnt it. You will be absolutely fine though and we are always here to talk to anytime xx

Sounds like exactly what you need Hun. A word of advice though from someone who works in the NHS. If its a drop in service make sure you go nice and early, preferably before the drop in session actually starts. These services get really busy and only take a certain number each day so you don't want to get turned away. good luck xx

I've been in for my pill a few times over the years, and I've never waited too long. There's usually only 2 or 3 people in front. Apart from the one time they forgot about me lol.

I don't want to be the party pooper, but i work in both a surgery and a gum/fp clinic (although I am still in a training capacity in the FP clinic). The FP clinic will be able to advise you, but won't actually be able to do any investigations like scans, bloods etc (at least I can't when I'm at FP). It might help if you want to see what they'd suggest and then take that to your horrible gp? I think the healthy pregnancy advice you'll probably already know - take folic acid, don't booze/smoke/take drugs etc.

If you don't like any of the doctors at your surgery, can you change? I have said it to a few people now but you are more than entitled to vote with your feet. All you have to do is go into a new surgery and register (take your purple card if you can find it). Bear in mind that both if you have issues getting pregnant, a normal pregnancy or problems in a pregnany, it is good to have a good and sympathetic doctor.

If you go onto NHS choices website and search your postcode, it will tell you all the surgeries that you can register with, and I think a score now for how good they are.

I hope this helps. x

I really just want to talk over my concerns with someone and to see if it's worth investigating further. I don't want to go and see the horrible GP and be made to feel silly, if you see what I mean. If the FP clinic thinks it's best to see the GP then I'll do it.
