Hi,

I've just found out I'm pregnant. I went to the doctors and he's sent off all my referral forms to book me a hospital. Oviously it's early days yet and I won't be booked in for my first scan for a while. I was just wondering what I should do if something bad starts to happen or I think something is wrong, especially out of hours, as I don't have a midwife or anything yet or anyone I could contact if I needed a scan urgently? I know GPs can sometimes brush you off so it would be nice to be able to contact someone who was sympathetic to the situation.

Right what you do is phone up your local hospital and ask for the EPAU early pregnancy assessment unit,and they will put you through to where lovely midwives are on hand to guide you through whatever needs be from advice to scans.

of course if you have an emergency then always go straight to A&E which are pretty good on pregnancy issues. Also phone G.P's and book a midwife appointment.
