Hi
I went to the docs today as i haven't felt right since monday and last night i thought i had thrush as i was sore and burning. however when i went to the docs he tested my urine and said i have a "serious and quite nasty infection" and a lot of white cells in my urine. Has anyone else had this as usually they just say yeh u have a water infection now go away and drink fluids, but he has put me on antibiotics aswell.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Awwwwww poor you! Are you noticing any other symptoms? I've had a uti and had some anti-biotics for it and was absolutely fine. Good luck, and try not to worry too much

Thanks luv  To be honest i really thought it was just thrush, the water infections i've had in the past i've always been in a fair bit of pain with but apparently this ones been lurking around in me for a while. I last had my urine checked at 22 weeks and it was fine then.
I found on the internet that its white BLOOD cells and apparently its when the kidneys have become infected and allowed the infection to pass through them, which i have had a bit of back pain but put it down to the baby growing!
I just hope the antibiotics kick in so nothing affects LO.
Thanks xx

your little one will be very safe don't worry, the antibiotics won't affect the baby.

the white blood cells show your bodies response to your water infection its nothing at all to worry about, just continue to drink plenty of fluids and paracetomol is also safe if its very painful, it will clear up in a couple of days when the antibiotics kick in.

not nice though, hope you feel better soon

It is difficult to know sometimes isn't it? I've had exactly the same symptoms twice, and the 2nd all was clear, and probably due to the ever-expanding baby lol. Always good to keep an eye on it, and I must admit I'm checking my temp a lot more when I do feel grotty just to check it's feeling grotty and not a bug. I also drink lots of water and cranberry juice now. When I had my results back the first time I was told I had protein in my pee, not sure if this is exactly the same, but I imagine it probably is. White blood cells are the ones that attack infection, which is probably why they've been passed through, with their association with your infection. I've had about 4 colds, 2 tummy bugs and a uti since being preggers, but I'm constantly being reassured that my baby will be fine, as it will be taking what it needs from my body and being protected by the placenta. Our immune systems are slightly repressed when we're pregnant, so that our bodies don't reject the baby.

Hope the anti-biotics work quickly for you, took mine a couple of days to kick in fully. I also found acidophillis at the same time helpful, or plenty of yoghurt.... I'm sure you already know all of that though
