Hi there,

I was looking at getting some newborn toys for when LO arrives and was wondering which ones you ladies had that were particularly good/popular with your LOs.

Thanks in advance xx

Mobiles and stuff are what we've gone for in the early months. We've got some things for when able to hold things and move around later on but for the early months we've kept it very simple.

Play mat, mobiles and a few other bits like that.

Most toys seem to start off with an age rating of 3 months plus anyways. Very few actual 'toys' seem to exisit for newborns. Most things are visual/hearing etc at that stage.

Like Sherlock, we have only got one or two things for when the baby is newborn and they are mainly to stimulate vision.
I bought one of these for my sister last year and she found it useful, so we are going to get one too..

Newborn babies can see very strong contrast colours much better than pastels etc, so black and white shapes are quite good.

We also have this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Faces-Babys...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208303073&sr=8-1

We don't expect him/her to read it, but again, it is something to focus on and look at if it is next to them. We can get more adventurous with it as they get a bit older.

leland is now 11 weeks and still not able to hold toys or take notice of them but

his swing , thats a different story well worth spending more on a swing and less on toys ! ( wish i had !) altho im sure he'll like his toys soon .

oh , good toys are also ones that vibrate , they like the sensation !

We have this...

Its not the prettiest mobile but Eva seems to love it especially the red giraffe, and it has kept her amused while I have a shower from about 2 weeks old, and I use to play the music to her when she was just a bump too!

At first the stuff most used was playgym, swing etc and the smaller toys that we bought she couldnt really play with in the earlier days as she couldnt get hold of them. The playgym has toys that hang down so she loves kicking them and trying to get hold.

Now she can hold things she likes soft toys that she can put in her mouth  and anything that she can easily grip onto and also put in her mouth  She loves toys that make noises too, like rattles and crinkly toys :)

Hope that helps x

Thanks for all the replies ladies!

I have got this play mat (love the rainforest stuff!!!):

and am going to get this bouncer as we don't really have room for a swing:

I also got some cute teethers that have crinkly bits on from mothercare for when he's a bit older:

and

and got a taggies book for him to chew/focus on and a winnie the pooh comforter. Hopefully that should keep him going until he can grip things more!

If you have any more ideas let me know.

Thanks again xx

Toys are a hard one for a newborn because they aren't interested but...

We've definately had our money's worth out of this mobile... (Flutterbug - I got it from Amazon)

Unfortunately Finn keeps pulling the wings off it now!!! :rotfl:

I wish I had this sooner too. I got it in Mothercare and it's great for little hands and is also soft so they can bash themselves over the head with it and chew it!

The best thing we got for when ds was little was Baby Tad. Not sure if it's still sold but he loved him! Used to look at him for hours on end and it used to send him to sleep on the night time songs. He got scared of it in the end but he was his fave for months!

Just looked and they still sell him!
