I work on a self-employed basis though the company provide me with work and pay my tax etc. I am worried about telling I am pg because it may affect how much work they give me. Obviously I will not get any maternity pay later on as I am Self-employed.

What do you think I should do? Do I have to tell them by a certain point?

With most employers, they need to know by the 15th week before the baby is due (ie 25 weeks pregnant), so i imagine it would be the same?

Have a look on the Maternity Alliance website, its really helpful.

If youre employers treat you unfairly because you're pregnant then its discrimination, so telling them should not change the work they provide you with (unless its unsuitable).

It might depend on your contract with them, but as far as I'm aware, you don't have to tell them at all if you're self employed. Likewise though, they're under no obligation to provide time off for appointments and arrange health / safety checks etc.
