when do you have your first blood test?

hey everyone,

when do you have your first bloods taken is it 8 weeks or 12? Because I have my 8 week appointment with my midwife so I was wondering if this is it!
I only ask cause I am phobic of needles and I need to prepare myself hehe

I think it's usually at your booking in appointment, which is around 12 weeks.

 

Usually your booking in appointment but if your first one is at 8 weeks, then that will be your booking in appointment. So at 8 weeks hun.

Yeah, at your 1st MW appointment, so it will be done at your 8 week appointment - your 12 week one will be your scan i would think.

I hate needles too, and have never had blood taken (that I remember anyway - I have possibly blocked out any incidents when I was a child), but my MW was lovely - she couldn't find a vein which didn't help, but I just looked away and chatted to her about her nice pictures on her wall!

I had a bit of a horrible needle experience when they couldn't find a vein when I was a teenager and managed to avoid blood tests until pregnancy. They are honestly fine though, I'm like a pin cushion now having to have them weekly and as long as I don't watch it really is just a prick, you'll be fine too

 

I used to needles aswell (sounds rather funny coing from someone who has had so many piercings and tatoo's, at least you gain from them!).
But I've got used to having the blood taken now, it's really not that bad anymore. It's injections I can't handle still.

Yeah I knwo the reason for my phobia is due to a tramatic childhood bloodtest when I was 5. I had one when I was 11 and I remember saying to my mum after it was fine.
I have tattoos and piercings too and they have never bothered me and injections dont worry me either. I also gave blood last year which was uncomfortable but it was ok, so I can't understand why i am so scared! x

i had my first bloodtest at 12 weeks

 

I had my first blood test at 15 weeks and not at my 8 week booking appointment because I wasn't given the leaflets on the blood test choices when I had my confirmation appointment at 6 weeks

i had mine at eight weeks its not that bad though its only a little prick you feel then its nearly over with good luck xxxxxx
