When did you little one start showing a interest in foods and when did you start to wean? Also if bottle feeding when was your babe able to hold the bottle themselves?

Cally started to show an "interest" in food at 4 months - in that she watched us eat and grabbed food ogff our plates if she could but this is just a normal developmental stage. She was 6 months when she was weaned.

He has been able to hold the bottle for himself for about a month, but only when its full.. he dosent tip it up high enuff... so when its emptying, I have to hold it.

Interest in food... REALLY at 5 months old. Thats when I was impossible to eat a meal in the same room as him without him wanting some... diving onto my plate, or having a fit because he was not on the sofa near the food!! lol.

Weaned him at 14weeks. Not because he was interested, for medical reasons. He now eats anything and everything, lumps, finger food, give it to him, he'll eat it :D

Angel showed interest in food at 4 months. She was weaned at 18 weeks.

LO started showing interest in food around four months. I did let her try some foods (like a bit of cucumber or banana) but started weaning at six months. Far easier as I thought that there will be plenty of time for her to eat solids. It's much easier to go out if you don't have to worry about bringing their solids :D

Ditto beanie really.

Just because LO was showing an interest doesn't mean he needed weaning though. Its just baby curiosity and them starting to notice things around them.

We weaned about 5 1/2 months and are going the BLW route. So much less hassle than purees earlier on. Also our LO is a BIG lad and has a huge appetite but was more than happy on milk till then. Yes it was hard work for me sometimes sticking with that, I felt it was best for him. Although he sat with us while we ate for ages, we waited for when he was ready to start BLW. I knew milk was enough for him and knew I just had to get through the growth spurts with more milk. Never took it as a sign to wean even tho HV said food would help fill him up. TBH weaning him hasn't made a bit of difference to him sleeping better or him having less feeds from me. He has good nights and bad. Bad when his skin irritates him or some such, good when it doesn't. I expect his milk feeds to start to tail of gradually in the coming few months though.

:) Thanks for the replys. I know eventually she will start to want food but ATM shes not really interested by anything I was mainly just wondering when she might start to show some kind of interest. Has anyone had a babe that eats very little and when did they start to take notice of food? I am hoping to wait till at least 6months before anything then start BLW it looks fun! Has anyone had to wait till after 6months because the milk itself was enough that there was no need for foods?

So would I be able to give Connie a little bit of things like a banana to get her used to different tastes of things? We're nowhere near contemplating weaning yet but I would like her to get used to tastes of things. Would you give it to her after she's had her bottle? or in between feeds?

You can if you want when she is old enough. Just fruit and veg though before 6 months. I'd avoid jars if you want to offer tasters as the flavour of jar puree is nothing like the fresh made stuff. IMHO its ick stuff and mixes flavours up so LO doesn't actually know what chicken or sweet potato tastes like as its mixed in with other stuff and water. I'm all for proper flavour of foods but each to their own.

Banana makes LO's constipated. On top of formula (which can make for much harder poos anyways) I'd not give banana. Maybe some other pureed fruits before 6 months. If you are wanting to wean later I'd personally not bother with tasters. Just let LO make up their own mind when they are ready. Galen soon got to grips with what he likes and doesn't like. And also it comes and goes in phases. For a while he went mad for raspberries, now its plain yogurt and chicken. Sometimes both together  O and he ate a 1/4 of my spag bol the other day from my plate. Got his hands stuck in and chomper away

We've never had a problem with banana - my daughter is formula fed and on infant Gaviscon which makes an excellent recipe for constipation yet she's never been constipated. Never had a problem before she was 6 months either. I suppose it's something to watch out for (as are all foods if you're weaning early) but as I said we never had a problem and banana is an excellent first food.

If she's content on milk just now I'd leave out the food. There's not really a need to give them a taste of things either because come 6 months she'll be able to have what you have. However if she's ready before 6 months (my daughter was), you know your LO best

Oh and about the bottle thing, mine still can't (well, won't) hold the bottle because it's too heavy when it's full
