Ellis is not finishes his bottles as it states he should but he has never drunk a lot, 4-5 ounces at a time.

He is not pushing things from his mouth any more (think that is a sign)

he stares at me when i eat

I had beans this morning and dipped my finger in it and he loved it!!!

Shall i start, when did you all start and how did u know they was ready?

I am excited to start hehe

Hi Keely

Lily was 16 weeks when I started I tried to wait longer but she gave me know choice.

Lily had reflux so I had to give her gaviscone and as I'm breastfeeding i had to give it her with a spoon as she wouldn't take it from a bottle.
She started to get really excited when she saw me bring it in for her, she would kick her legs like mad.

She would also take an interest in my food when eating.

The main reason I started weaning though was she really was I really knew she was getting ready for solid and wasn't content with just my breastmilk.

If you feel little one is ready then give it ago, you'll know once they try it if they're ready lily ate a table spoon of Baby rice mixed with milk within 2 minutes and bearly made a mess as she didn't spit it out she wanted it that much lol.

Good luck I hope the weaning goes well

Hi Keely

I started Olivia at 15 weeks because she started waking in the night again, she also seemed hungry all the time!

The health visitor said this was a sign and that if i wanted try her with babyrice, she ate that really well for the 1st few days but then went off it so she's been having porride, pureed carrot, or sometimes ill give her a jar to get her used to the different tastes! She loves it!

Sometimes ill give her porrige in the morning, other days ill give her a dinner at dinner time, which ever seems the best time of the day!

Hi Keely

Hows Ellis doing?

I think Im going to try Isabella this weekend with a little baby rice, she is now having between 31-36 oz a day  She is watching me eating also.

Jamie was 3 months. We decided to start early because he was having so much milk during the day it was getting silly. We tried him on baby rice for a little while then rusks which he loved. We haven't looked back.
He loves his food.
For the last few days I been cooking him different stuff, he likes everything. :D

I have the annabell karmel book to follow to the dot hehe.

First week is 2 days of baby rice, next two days root vegetable, 5th day pear and baby rice, 6th day apple and 7th day vegetable all at lunch time.... then second week is breakfast and lunch.

I think... i know it sounds silly but ..... Ellis is bored of milk! He is dropping about 2 feeds at the min but cos he is still putting on a few ounces a week the HV said it is fine!! But he used to put nearly a pound on every week.

But he is still a little porker, he was 16 pound 13 last thursday!! hehe

I weaned Aimee at about 16 weeks. She never took much milk so i never had that to go on but was defintly ready for food. I just don't think she liked milk that much, it must be boring. My eldest was a little pig and loved her milk and i tried weaning her at 15 weeks and she wouldn't have it so i left her just on milk till she was about 20 weeks.

I am intending to try Ellie on solids as soon as she is 4 months. In my what to Expect - the first year book it says only give them baby rice between 4months and 6months, it only mentions vegetables etc after 6months. Is that right? That sounds an incredibly boring diet? She has been avidly watching us eat and what we are eating for quite a while now.

Keely the usual sign that they may be ready for solids is drinking lot more milk as it's not filling them up. If he doesn't seem hungrier, ie waking more in the night and drinking lots of extra milk, I wouldn't rush things.
I know its exciting, but its also a lot more work once you start on the solids, plus with the health implications etc. maybe you'd be better off waiting a little longer?

I weaned Mason at 4 months cos that what HVs said back then. Brody was also waking every hour in the night and feeding constantly so I started him on a teaspoon of babyrice at about 4 1/2 months. I stuck with that for about 2 weeks before introducing anything else.

Dior was 3months. she didnt show any signs but i didnt really no what i was doing and i thought you had to start them at that age. dior took to it fine and never looked back
Harley was 4 months old when i started him but its been a struggle this time round. he is only just starting to hae 1 meal a day now

personaly i no its fun starting but its hassel. the longer they are on milk the easier i think x x x

Ive weaned Joe in the last few days and he is loving it. A little bit ealier than I would have preferred but the signs were there are there is more going in than coming out.

He is a greedy little boy

I started both of mine on rusks and porridge at 3 and a half months as they just weren't getting filled up on the hungry baby milk!!

I started weaning Mia just before 4 months, cos she was constantley feeding from me...so i did'nt think she was getting enough milk, and she seemed hungry all the time...she also weighs about 15Ib so is quite a big baby.

I too was following the Annabel Karmel guide, but it seemed we were introducing too many new flavours in a week-so now she normally has baby rice at lunchtime, and sometimes just a couple of purees a week too. She loves the baby rice though-and cries when it's all gone!!

I started Arianna as 15wks.... I had no choice she was so hungry. One night she had 3 full bottles!!
She loves it!! She's not too keen on the plain baby rice but I mix it in with apple or carrot and she scoffs the lot!!

Wow Keely 16BL Ellis really is a lil chunky monkey :)

Olivia was 13BL 11 last friday!

I didnt think to try mixing the baby rice with apple or carrot  , might give it a go to see if Olivia likes it!

You should try it.... I can't feed Arianna quick enough... she stamps her feet wanting more.
I read in a book it makes the carrot etc creamer and not so sweet so they dont get a sweet tooth too early - dont want her to be like her mum!!!!
