...you really liked a name but then found out it meant something bad?

I really like the name Mallory for a girl, but found out it has roots meaning 'unlucky' which has put me right off. OH says t doesn't matter what roots a name has. What do you reckon?

Meanings are quite important to me but it would depend on just how much I loved the name really x

My name means "born on Christmas day" I was born on June 17th

xxxxxxxxx

I think if you love the name the meaning doesn't really matter - i've never even looked at the meaning of my name and i'm sure plenty of people never do either x

Mine means princess so meanings obviously are correct haha only messing pretty sure my hubby would disagree with the princess part lol diva maybe? :p I think if you really like the name it shouldn't matter but can see where your coming from though.

personally I would have something to say about it however if I really loved the name then I would stick with it. I have only just looked into our baby names meanings
x

i know what you mean, i think it would put me off slightly too but tbh how many of us know the meanings of our names? I dont, and quite alot of other people dont either xx I suppose it depends on how much the meaning of the name means to you. x

TBH i wouldnt care about meaning BUT in this case, when the meaning is unlucky, I would think i might be jinxing things maybe? I would blame her name for anything bad that ever happens her! can u find anywhere that has a DIFFERENT meaning? xx

Apparantly in German it can mean war counselor, not sure if thats much better though.
I personally wouldnt bother with the meaning, but if its something thats going to niggle at you then maybe you should opt for something else.
What about valerie? It sounds quite similar and means strong and brave.

Mallory's growing on me

I REALLY like it. I think Cassidy goes well with it too  xx

I really like the name. My name means from France but its Italian and I'm neither.

I felt this way with Elexia's name, i loved the name didnt want to spell it with an A and it was greek (where OH and me went on our first holiday) but when i researched the name further, its actually the name of some male sex drug or something like that, it put me off for a while but i still really liked it, in the end we went for it and noone has ever mentioned it, we always get its a lovely name and aww wheres the name from.
So if you like it, id say go for it :) x x

thanks hun :) x x

Sorry but yes it would put me off, I think if youve even thought about asking this question you should change the name because if you decide later on you hate it because if its meaning youll be stuck :px

I think it's put me off :( shame really, I like the name! I think if it weren't for so many people asking me what my sons name means then I wouldn't be so bothered. It's one thing saying your sons name means 'strong in battle' and then explaining that your daughters means 'unlucky', I'd worry people felt sorry for her!

Oh well, one more off the list! Thanks ladies x

I've slept on it and changed my mind again lol! I figured no-one is actually going to go and check what it means, and according to Wikipedia, it's derived from 'beautiful' or 'armour', both of which are fine by me!

I wouldn't let it put me off at all! I'd say if you like it, go for it :)
It's not very often (if ever) you get people asking what your name means! xx

You could always just tell people you dont know what it means, that you just liked the name.
