What can I do to keep her amused?

About 2 weeks ago Connie has really started taking notice of her surroundings. She likes looking at things such as her mobile and her baby gym but she starts crying as if she's getting bored after a while. I read her books which she likes but as she's awake for most of the day I'm getting knackered spending the whole day waving things in front of her and singing head, shoulders, knees and toes. I'm ashamed to say that she seems quite taken by the tv  . I've been to the library and got a few board books which she likes.

Any tips on what I can do to stimulate her? I have very little experience with babies.

Have a look on line for some black and white pictures to download or black and white baby books. They love to look at them and it keeps them occupied for a while. I used to put one in her pram on the inside of the hood and she used to look up at it for ages. Other places..side of the cot etc

And Amazon have some baby books you can get that have black and white animal etc pics in them.
Hope that helps,

Sing nursery rhymes (or anything) whilst you hoover lol! I take molly in her bouncy chair into the kitchen when I have to wash dishes and stuff and just chat away to her. She likes changes of surroundings and different noises and generally just likes nosing :)

Have you tried showing her one of those baby-safe mirrors? Elijah loves shiny things and will look into the mirror for quite a while. We got a "baby's first book" off Amazon, that has black and white and yellow high-contrast pictures, with a small plastic mirror in one panel. It spreads out so that you can lay it against a wall (or against a cot side) so that the baby can look at all the pages at once. Good for tummy time, as it encourages them to raise themselves up to see it.

Classical music amuses him too, but he prefers me singing (even when it's late and I'm out of tune  ). Plus walks in the pram or sling, in the fresh air are also enjoyable.

It's hard, isn't it, these first few months? They want to be entertained, but they're just not old enough to grasp much! Not a newborn, so no longer sleeping as much, yet not old enough to go down to the library for the weekly song-time.

Going for walks in the pushchair is endlessly fascinating. At Connie's age DD used to grump in the afternoons so I would take her for walks for between 1 and 3 hours just to keep her happy  This http://www.elc.co.uk/toy/activity-caterpillar/ was exciting to look at, then to reach for and now at 5 months it spends a lots of time being chewed  absolutely the best value for money toy we've had.

We go out everyday even if it's just for a walk around the block. I've bought some books from ebay and we've been to the libray and got a couple. It's lovely seeing her take an interest in things and smiling :D . She loves the mirror on the baby gym.

I wouldnt worry too much as she's still so young. I felt a bit like you when Emms was so young, but they dont need a lot at that age to stimulate them - what's going on around is enough with a few toys. I found that it was about 3 months when Emms was much more into toys, games etc.

I know there is a baby Einstein DVD in the compilation set that is suitable for 1 month+. If you look on ebay for the baby einstein DVDs, the listings normally say the age suitability and you can get the specific dvd. My boy loves these dvds. If Im not mistaken the one for the younger babies has a lot of classical music on it. Its supposed to stimulate and help develop babies.
