My sister is visiting and I have been outside in the mornings with her yesterday and today. I don't live in the UK and it has been about 32 both days. I thought the sun would be good for vitamin d and as I went inside before noon, sat in the shade for some of the time and cooled of in the pool every 15mins to half an hour as it got hotter I thought it wouldn't be bad but I've just googled and scared myself. I don't think I overheated and I'm drinking lots of water now but reading about the risk of nt defects I'm crying and feel so stupid. Anyone help reassure me I haven't damaged the baby? Anyone in their first trimester this summer spent plenty of time outside or go on holiday and spend time in the sun? I hate myself for messing up this early especially when I asked the Dr if I could still swim. And she said yes, didnt think to ask about the heat.

Abi i think you are perfectly fine. As long as you spent some time in the shades and cooled off in the pool you wont have anything to worry about.
Its definitely normal for pregnant ladies to spend time in the sun just not over do it. x

Thank you, I know logically you're right and DH is reminding me that plenty of women have to work on farms or fetch water in the heat when it's hotter than this. People wouldn't have babies in much of the world if it was actually a problem. Still can't help myself worrying and Google doesn't help, as with everything the slightest thing is life-threatening.

Your other half is definitely correct hun.
Stay away from google it is the devil i swear. Google is the one that has persuaded him so many times that i could be pregnant. Obviously wrong every time! xx

Hi - it's over 35 all Summer where I live. People get pregnant in summer and have healthy babies here :) Your body regulates its own temperature pretty well, even when it's hot out! You just need to drink plenty of water and keep an eye out for the signs of heat stroke (dizziness, feeling faint, nausea) as heat stroke sets in at the point when your body and baby are getting too hot.

Yes I came in because I didn't want to burn even though I was wearing factor 50! I'm so glad it sounds like it's ok and I haven't done any damage. Thanks for the reassurance! Didn't get any symptoms of overheating so I feel much better

Went to the pool for half an hour today again, promising to not overdo it as DH said I can't become a hermit and I realised I freaked out over nothing yesterday (wouldn't be the first time). There was no way I could have overheated and the pool felt down right nippy! Didn't stay for long but then I didn't stay long yesterday either. And it's a good thing to distract myself from feeling sick today, the nausea has really kicked in now. Thank you so much for the advice yesterday, it helped so much!

Ah, don't worry, we all have freak outs over silly things. It doesn't improve as you get further along either!! I'm 27 weeks and I freaked out big time yesterday because I bent over too far and it hurt. Then baby didn't move for a while. I thought I must've snapped her in half or something!! She's fine but I was so upset - looking back that was ridiculous of me to think lol. I think pregnancy makes us all a little crazy :)

Thank you I'm so glad it's not just me! I've been keeping up with my folic acid anyway so I keep reassuring myself the risk is low, I've even switched to an actual pre-natal now rather than the TTC ones!

As far as I know you're more likely to hurt yourself than baby if you over-exert yourself anyway so as long as you're OK baby is too.

Ive had a week in Turkey, 30 degrees at 8 weeks pregnant baking in the sunshine, so please don’t worry. The worst thing you can do is google every single thing going because you’re bound to find a horror story just about anything. (I once read being veggie is harmful for your baby!) madness!

Xx

Thank you theosmama! I've heard that about being veggie too. I think people love to tell you you're doing it wrong sometimes.
