hey all xx

i had weetabix for breakfast this morning and i thought i'd try rhys with a spoon of it. he seemed to really enjoy it. just wondering if its ok to give him this occasionally for his breakfast or are our cereals a no no for now. if he can is it ok to make it with cows milk or his own baby milk and would it be ok to add a little sugar as weetabix taste pretty nasty without it.

Angel has weetabix without any sugar on and she loves it. Probably best to sweeten it with a bit of mushed banana or other fruit puree.
Not sure on age to give it but i'm pretty sure my HV suggested it before 6 months, but not to use cows milk til she turned 6 months.

Wheat has gluten so it's really on the no-no list until 6 months. After then they can have it with full fat moo milk. I wouldn't bother with the sugar either - it might taste bland to you but he won't know any different. I usually give Becky the bite size ones and cut up banana on top which she loves.

I have given weetabix to Calleigh in the past with full fat milk (blue top) you can use formula if you wish. Usure about whether they can have it under 6 months though  someone may come along and answer that one for you :)

LO will probably not care about its bland taste but if you wish to add flavour mash in a bit of banana or some fruit puree :D much better than sugar.

they are ok to have it from 6 months with cows milk but its not recomended the cows milk before that, he wud have it with his own milk but again the baby cereals are better for him at his young age as his tummy will be able to digest it easier and there arent any salts etc in the baby ones.
as for the sugar i would strongly advise against it x

Corey loves it too!

I know guid lines state you can use milk in food and cooking after 6 months. maybe just make it up with formula for a while.. and I dont think they need the sugar... Corey dont anyway!

As for the wetabix itself, I think the only problem is the Gluten, but... tis upto u!

Yeah weetabix is from 6 months, both my boys LOVE it!

James still doesn't know you can put sugar on cereal, I've managed to keep it a secret even though I put sweetner on my own! If you don't give them sugar to start with they won't miss it :D

oooo didn't expect so many replies so quick thankyou all :) i will try him with some in the morning and i'll leave the sugar out :)

You may want to wait a couple of weeks until he is 6 months because of the gluten in it. That extra time will just help make sure his digestive tract is mature enough to cope and there is a medical risk associated with gluten before 6 months. I can't remember what it is though. If you are really keen to try him with something for breakfast perhaps some baby rice would work? I don't know  It seemed yucky to me :rotfl: Or fruit. Mashed banana if you don't mind the stains on the clothes!

We didn't give her solids until 6 months so I'm not sure what to suggest for the next couple of weeks.

The info I have is that babies cant have cow's milk until they are 1 yr unless in cooking. I think Weetabix isnt advised under 6 months because of the salt content.

I normally mix Logans weetabix with a bit of formula. I'm gonna wait till he's one before giving him cows milk in case it aggrivates his eczema :)
