I'm trying to get jack to try more solids except everything pureed and he put it straight in his mouth which is great but then he swallows without chewing and chokes.. It's so scary.. I'm not sure what to do to prevent or change this..

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance x

Have you gone from stage 1 to stage 2 jars or are you making it yourself? If it's jars I mashed up the stage two jar some more. If it's homemade I purée half and mash the rest. At first Isla spat out the lumps but she chews now. It's took a few weeks but she's definitely chewing.

Just keep trying, he will soon get the idea, his gag reflex is higher up his tongue than ours

I literally had the cow and gate jars for 7 months plus, and I give him lumpy mash.. His fine with that but I tried broccoli florets and he swallows the chunks he gets off in full x

you need to give him stuff which is 'bite and disolve' so he can practice chewing but wont be at risk of choking. Its normal to gag and spit stuff out as they learn to eat solids, but if hes actually choking then he needs a little more practice! also you can get these net thingys that you can put fruit in etc and they can chew it and you hold onto the handle so theres nothing to swallow.

those organix baby crisps disolve in the mouth, i wouldnt give skips or wotsits cos of the salt but they are the perfect texture

The carrot puffs are great for this x

i found that the cow&gate stage 2 jars are alot more textured and lumpy and my lo just spits them out, but he will eat the HIPP stage 2 jars and chew no problem!! its more pureed with like bits of pasta or noodles etc etc. im still trying with the cow&gate ones but he's not having it!!!!

i would try doing fresh veg and fruit and use a potatoe masher on it rather than blender the texture seems to be better and lumps are soft x
