Need some advice please!
Ive been exclusively breastfeeding for six months... and have over the last three weeks been slowly trying to introduce solids.. but not very successful so far! I have tried baby rice, rusks, cereal, carrot, sweet potatoe , banana, apple, pear... the only thing he seems to take a spoonful of is avocado. With the rest of it I cant even get him to open his mouth. (and when he has taken a couple of spoonfuls in the past, he has thrown it all up a few minutes later)
What am I doing wrong??? the problem I have is that he used to be a good sleeper, waking only one or twice through the night, but over the last month he has started waking up to seven times a night! Doctor said it was probably hunger, but what can I do if he wont eat anything? Also I have tried to supplement with a bit of formula, but he wont have it. I have tried every night for ten days, and three different types of formula, and cant get him to swallow any of it.
Sorry for the long post, just wondering if anyone has any advice or has had a smiliar problem!

Thankyou!

Can you maybe start him on a bit of baby porridge and mix it in with EBM? Maybe cos the taste is similar he might try it. Also you could try him with finger foods maybe to get him used to putting things in his mouth, the best ones I have found are Organix Carrot sticks, they are a bit like wotsits but bigger so they basically melt in the mouth while they chew it, makes me feel a bit better cos it still makes me nervous watching him with finger foods

How hungry is he when you give the solids? I found that if my LO is too hungry, she won't take any solid foods, and would cry for the bottle. Now, I make up the food about 15 minutes before her next feed, and it's working. She now eats all her food, then drinks her milk.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried mixing with breast milk but he still wont have it. I will try the finger foods, maybe he will prefer that! I have mainly been trying to feed him around lunch time. Maybe I should try a different time like early morning or later in the afternoon. Maybe hes just not ready? I think Im just worried that hes not getting enough......

I would try finger foods - rice cakes are good to start with because they just melt in the mouth. Let him play around with food for a bit, so he can put it to his mouth, lick it etc just so he gets a feel for different textures. You can also try some fruit cut into batons or lightly cooked vegetables (carrots, broccoli)

My experience is that weaning isn't an immediate cure to helping sleep through at night. I started weaning at 5 and a half months and Evie started sleeping through at 8 months  but they are all different :D

Oh, and you mention trying at different times of day, this is a good idea too. If hes not taking to it, don't push it, I'd stop for a couple of days then try again. It may not be exclusively hunger, it could be teething? or he could just of realised that crying means mummy gives me cuddles :D

Good luck :D

my LO faffed with single tastes for weeks and wouldnt eat anything but banana and i thought she was never goin to like the tastes and then i mixed the carrot, sweet potato and parsnip and she loved it. so then i looked for recipes that mixed flavours and within a few days she was having 3 meals a day and loving the food she was just not interested in single tastes it has to be mixed. xxx

well today has been a little more successful. he has managed to eat half an avocdo and not throw it all up! so maybe were getting somewhere now. having trouble locating finger foods here though(spain) maybe will have to go to Gibraltar to find some bits!
im a bit scared of giving him carrot or brocolli to munch n himself! Im sure its fine but Im a bit worried about him choking on it! Any advice for a first timer??? Might give it a go this evening.
Thanks! x
