Hi guys, our lil miss has been on solids now for over a week and at first her BMs were the same as before although they took a bit more work for the solids to come through and were maybe 2-3 per day as opposed to once or twice...she was really enjoying the solids so moved to twice per day total 3 tablespoons vege puree in those two sittings...tried 2-3 days per new flavour and then combi when passed three days...just yesterday she showed more interest in eating her solids than her milk and so gave them to her. Thing is over past day or so she has been pooing so regular I cant keep her bum free and it has now got quite a bad rash...Ive been treating it with metanium but it barely has an hour to work before the next poo...yesterday she went 6 times (albeit small amounts each time) and today twice so far, one during the night (unheard of) and one whilst playing (again unheard of - usually during a feed without fail and she still does during a feed but every other time too lol)

I gave her nappy free time best I could yesterday but it got messy lol..

the dilemma I have is do I give her a break from solids (even though she's really into it and keen) to let her bum heal or keep as I am as its a period she has to go through as part of the weaning process? could it be a sign of an allergy? if so, I can pinpoint the recent new flavour and just try the others see if that helps? despite the consistency changing, as far as I can tell her poos are normal no green...

It doesnt help that she is also teething majorly these past three days and despite managing during the night for the past 4 weeks has all of a sudden woken at night crying due to teething...also even when chomping on a teething dummy she sometimes cries as if its not satisfying the pain....guessing the new teeth are imminent...

any suggestions would be more than welcome...

seems to me you're more likely dealing with a teething rash from saliva. my son always violently threw up no nappy rash and woulnt eat just have milk. try some calendula cream from weleda sorts it out best imo x

I disagree with using any cream - it's very sore on raw skin. If you're using wipes, switch to warm water and cotton wool and continue with as much nappy free time as poss. It will clear up soon.

weleda is all natural. calendula is like sudocreme w/ its healing effects just not as heavy and all natural, I swear by it. I use sudo for myself for spots & burns calendula for raw bottoms, incl. my own. It like magic. Basically same level as cotton wool & water on the natural scaling.

thanks for your suggestions guys, I have been managing stints of about 20mins...any longer and she poos...Ive also not given her any solids today, probably be good idea for her to flush everything out and then I introduce them all again and see if same thing happens...I was following what ive read which is let baby eat as much as they like and after a few days of purees she is taking 3-4 teaspoons per meal and loving it lol...she is also now having cooled boiled water with it to help it go down and means she isn't relying on milk to quench her thirst from eating solids...I read somewhere that they need to drink more water at this stage so have a first stage weaning cup...I also have a sippy cup but she isn't quite ready for that...she needs to be able to control the flow....ok well ive just put some cream on so will leave it now til tonight and get the cotton wool back out...

If she's off her milk and hassle a bad bum it probably is the result of teething.

Personally I'd stop whatever has recently been introduced to her diet, no need to stop all solids if it's been going well. At least then you can rule out any reactions to food. If it improves, stay away from what you believe caused the reaction for a while before trying it again. If she doesn't show signs of improvement and is still showing signs of teething it's probably because of that.

Just do what you can with the rash, as much nappy off time as possible and where possible clean her up with warm water and cotton wool or amuslin cloth (I detest cotton wool!) instead of wipes. I'd use suncream rather than metitanium if the skin is broken in any way.

thanks littlemonkey, well as I was doing the 3 day rule it could be the parsnip and potato as that was the most recent introduction so will avoid that for now, I will start back with solids tomorrow as it is going well and she needs to adjust to the extra toilet trips otherwise if I stop altogether the same issue could arise next time I start up I guess...

I completely forgot that nappy rash can be a sign of teething and it also fits in with her extra fussiness, nightwakings amnd slight resistance to milk (usually feed, burp, feed the rest but recently she will cry if try and offer more even tho she's hungry!). The rash has cleared up since I gave her a bum wash on the changing table with water and tissues (dont like cotton wool either...) and 20mins nappy free time...do you think the chlorine at swimming pool will agitate it? We go every Wednesday but wondering if should skip a week?

OK back to carrot and potato tomorrow...

ok she's had a day off weaning and the rash has now cleared up both with tissue and warm water as opposed to wipes...some good bum washes and lots of nappy free time. To be on the safe side will leave parsnip off the menu for now...she had a good solid nights sleep last night no nightwakings so hopefully the teething has come to a head...she did manage to turn 180 in her cot though! wondered what I was looking at on the camera when woke this morning - I was zoomed into her legs not face lol...

You should get some orabase paste, it's fantastic stuff and all natural and prevents the rash coming back plus it's great if the rash does come back because it stops it getting bad and heals really fast! I was given it in A&E when my son had an awful rash and nothing I tried helped, even the GP didn't know what to do, been using this ever since and he has never had a rash since and if I see him getting a bit sore I just stick a bit on and it stops it right away xx

I think it can be 'cause of material of changing table. I had such problem. My 1st son has a rash 'cause of changing table. But for my 2nd baby I ordered a new changing table on http://www.qbicwashrooms.co.uk/ . Bed surface exclusively contains Microban antimicrobial, reducing odor causing bacteria.
