Hey ladies,

Just wondering if anyone has started yet (Jan/Feb mums)?
I have- I know I'm soo naughty but developmentally I felt Theo was ready for his first tastes!

There's so much conflicting info regarding missing the 'window of opportunity' with tastes if you wean after 6mt but then concerns regarding allergies and stuff if you don't wait till 6mt!
I'm going with my instinct and I think having a spoon here and a spoon there of baby cereal and purée carrot and apple won't do any harm and he loves it!

I'm formula feeding but don't feel Theo is particularly extra hungry and I haven't started to get him sleeping as he sleeps well, he just showed lots of interest!

Just wondering if anyone is the same or if I am just super bad! Lol!

I weaned my eldest at 17 weeks. I did it on advice of the GP and HV because my son had reflux and was hardly drinking any milk. Personally I'm glad we started early, my son was showing signs of being ready and took well to it. I'm already planning to wean my youngest around the same time. My eldest was on three meals a day by six months and I honestly couldn't imagine waiting until then to start. It's also said that food is for fun until they're one, but again I couldn't imagine that with my son.

I was concerned about allergies etc. I started with baby rice mixed with milk just to get used to something different with a familiar taste. Then we stuck pretty much to fruit and vegetables and baby porridge until six months. Once he got to six months we then started introducing finger foods and every thing else.

He's two now and we don't have any obvious signs of allergies etc. He is also a fantastic eater who is rarely fussy. It didnt change how much milk he had but he wasn't drinking loads any way. As I say I'm glad we weaned when we did and will do it that way again. I understand why people wait though and that doing it early isn't for everyone.

Aww that's a relief! At the moment I'm just seeing it as an extra activity for him, exploring his new skills with regards to sitting up and being in his high chair and everything but I will do the same as you and introduce finger foods and family meals at 6mt and then I have got an idea for the things he likes too.

My LB was weaned from exactly 4ms.
He'll be 2years old in 3 weeks.
Hes a big lad, 3ft 2 and weighs over 2 stone. Love his food :) always has from day one :)

Goodluck with weaning its so much fun.
We started with baby porridge, apple purees, carrot and sweet potato puree etc xx

We have just started, I don't think there's much difference between our babies selina age wise. I started for the exact reasons you did. He has a little bit of baby rice once a day with his bottle and has learnt really quickly to move the food round his mouth and swallow. The first time he was kicking and screaming with excitement! At the moment I think it's all about them getting familiar with different tastes. We have a weaning talk at our hospital on Friday so I'm looking forward to learning more as at the moment I'm not sure when we should be having solids in the day, whether it with a bottle or not etc.

If you're super bad - then I am triple that! I have weaned all 3 of my children at 4 months! they were all fine, none have allergies - they all try everything, no fussy eaters, no fussiness over lumps when the time came. They all love fruit and veggies still now!

17 weeks is the earliest they suggest starting so you're past that point so doesn't sound like you're naughty to me at all!!

We haven't started yet (Caleb's 20 weeks) but we're going to at start of july-we're going on holiday tomorrow so it's more of a convenience thing that we haven't started yet as I think he's ready...so that probably makes me naughty too! x

Well, I feel much better after hearing your stories and because Theo seems to really enjoy having food!
He is having same amount of milk and 2 portions (2 teaspoons poeder with water) of banana breakfast and 2 lots of a few spoonfuls of puréed fruits (Ella's kitchen) a day. He squeals with excitement and let's me know when he wants more and when he has had enough!
It's exciting for us both and I'm glad I did it! Xxxx
