Just to let some of you know if you apply for maternal grant you will want to keep phoning them to chase up your claim after two weeks of sending it. As I sent mine of a month ago & found out yesterday that they had over looked my claimed after they had made the choice. I phoned them 2weeks after I sent it off & was told I should expect a letter saying we're intile & the money with in 3days (job center told us) didnt recive any letter or money so gave them 2 more weeks & got a call back of the actual grant people saying sorry the choice was made last month but for some reason not paid out so they should be paying it this week the women was very sorry but just to warn people you might want to chase them up more than I did as they did make the choice straight away just didnt tell Me x

I'm still waiting to hear back about Employment Support Allowance that I sent off the form for nearly 2 months ago! Will have to chase that up and make sure I chase up everything else too. Thanks for letting me know, I think sometimes they hope that you'll not bother and they can get away with not paying - then it's people with no money who suffer, I can barely afford to get by right now. :(

Yeah it bloody sucks always having to chase them up coz they just leave you on hold for ages :-( hope you get things sorted
Hun know how it feels :-/ x

I tried calling the job centre today to ask them to send me the sure start/maternity allowance forms, as been in hospital and too ill to go down there to get them. Every time they transferred me to the department and then the line went dead, then tried speaking to someone else about it and they said they don't work in that dept so can't help. Argh. I can see me being soooo delayed with this, like everything else. :(

Thank you :) I called today and they are sending me the forms so am going to send them off asap.

When does MA actually start getting paid to you? I know you're eligible to apply from 26wks but is it just 11wks before the birth that you start getting money? The problem I have is I don't have a set due date and won't for a while as my babies will be born premature in November any time (instead of December). Also will sure start not be paid til birth? So confused by it all lol.

Did you get a mat b1 from your midwife? I imagine even though you know you will go early the official due date will be 40 weeks so 'normal'.
On the forms it asks what date you will start maternity leave, as I'm self employed and not working for a while I put down 21 August as the day I start maternity leave (even though I don't go on official leave as work for myself) as far as I know I think they will either pay it from that date or contact me to confirm.

With you being due early I still think they will pay it from 11 weeks before your official due date, but if you give birth earlier than that (hopefully not) then they start paying it from the day the babies arrive. Hope that makes sense!
