Hey ladies :-)

My midwife wanted me on pregnacare as she said folic acid on its own isn't enough she especially wanted me to take vitamin d with it and she gave me a 7 day strip of pregnacare! My problem is I suffer at the best of times to swallow tablets but when I'm feeling nauseous too I gag big time as these are like horse tranquilizors, are there any other tablets that have the same stuff as pregnacare but smaller? Xx

Could you cut them in half? I have seven seas but I think they're probably similar size x

It says on box not to chew or crush and take whole with main meal so not sure if it ruins the effect some how? I was looking at seven seas on amazon but couldn't tell how big they was xx

Why has your midwife told you folic acid isn't enough? Do you have a vitamin d deficiency.

I take seven seas and they are the same size, I also took tesco own make in my last pregnancy and they were the same size too x

No idea it was my booking in appointment with her I'm 8+5 today and she said folic acid wasn't enough on its own she never took any blood just dipped my urine and did blood pressure and height and weight for my bmi and she said that was fine, would it be anything to do with blood clots? She never said so but my dad almost died 2 years ago from a big heart attack and blood clots in his legs and lungs? Xx

Maybe that's just her practise. It just seemed a bit strange. I've only ever taken just folic acid and never been told otherwise x

At my appointment yesterday the midwife asked me if I was taking folic acid and vitimin D, we all know why folic acid is important but apparently vitamin D is important for iron absorption, and as pregnancy progresses a pregnant woman's iron levels get lower because the baby is taking more and more of it from your body. You can easily get iron from your diet but vitamin D is harder, so they suggest a supplement. I've found all the pregnancy vitamins are the same sort of size tbh, could you buy folic acid and vitamin D supplements as separate tablets? They might be smaller individually and easier to swallow one after the other.

MWs are big on vit d as well now. Must be a new thing they're pushing. Mine gives tubs out of folic acid and vit d x

In chemist they have tubs of vitamin d but they are 25 mcg where as she wants me on 10mcg can't find 10 any where xx

They do 10mcg in morrisons and at the moment you can buy 3 jars for £5. Just bought them a couple of days ago x

Vitimin D is to help with bone development too. children being born with rickets is on the raise so mid wife's have being pushing vit D.
Last time I was pregnant I could buy healthy start pregnancy or breastfeeding tablets from my doctors reception.. They were small round tables, smaller then a paracetamol and less the a pound. I know they are free is you are on certain bemifits. My midwife was happy enough with me being on them. Might be worth looking up?

My midwife, before my mmc, gave me a supply too. Apparently it is part of the healthy start scheme. My midwfie said i could ask her at any point for more when id run out.its recommended for all pregnant women.

I haven't take any pregnancy vitamins since about 7 weeks other than folic acid which I stopped at 13 weeks as it's not needed after then. I've had HG and the iron in those tablets makes sickness even worse so I stopped taking them. If you are struggling with nausea I would recommend only taking folic acid and vitamin d as that's all you actually need x

Boots to folic acid plus vit d and they’re really small. If you sign up to their baby club you should get a voucher for a free one!
