do any of you give these?

i'm sort of of the opinion that i should be feeding connor a balanced diet, therefore he shouldn't need them... but i'm also aware of my own shortcomings and know that whilst i try my best, there will inevitably be days where he doesn't eat as well as he should...

what do you all do?

I don't give any vitamin drops and havent done with any of mine. L/O is 8 months and is on food and booby juice

Good post. I was thinking of this as i BF and hopefully still will be when Coop is 6 mths and i start to wean. You never really know how much vits are in food these days even if you are giving a balanced diet  I still take my pregnacare tablets. I probably will give Coop the drops but it doesn't really sit well with me giving him something artifical.

There is a lot of mixed messages on the web but the general consensus is that baby does not need an xtra supplements if they are having a balanced diet. The vitamin that is the one that is supplemented is vitamin D, however again this is unecassary if baby is getting exposure to sunlight (this does not have to be on a sunny day, just daylight - and 2 hours a week is an adequate amount).

Personally I don't like the idea of putting vitamin supplements into my children, esp with the recent health scare in adults but if this is somethig you are concerned about you could supplement yourself and this will be transfered into your breastmilk but do not take any vitimans exceeding daily recomended dose, esp Vit D as this could build up into toxic levels into your milk. I would speak to a health professional for advice if this is what you want to do.

thanks guys - beanie, you've just summed up what i feel about it :) :) i have been taking a general vitamin tablet every other day so i think i'll just carry on with that. my bf councillor is great but she's becoming somewhat by-the-book and is adamant that i should be giving the drops. but then she also disagrees with baby-led-weaning and co-sleeping - oops
