Hiya

I had gbs but it was found before I gave birth so I had IV antibiotics during labour.

Just wanted to give you a   . I'm sure she will be fine. Speak with the HV.

xx

i am so sorry beacuse i can't offer you any advise, but wanted to give you a big

I can't offer any advice either but wanted to give you a hug too

I was found to have this too after the birth of my first. In my second pregnancy it was written in my notes and at the onset of labour was given antibiotics just in case. Don't worry too much because if there was a risk of anything it would be treated seriously, but just so you know for future pregnancies you will be given antibiotics in labour.
With me in my second birth I had the first lot and they have to give u a second lot 4 hours later, but I gave birth too soon and missed the second lot so we had to stay in a couple of nights just as precaution as my daughter was given antibiotics through a tap in her hand 'just in case' and until test results came back that everything was OK with her - which they were, as I'm sure they are in most cases!
I'm sure if your baby were to be affected by your gbs she would have been already, but just so you know for any future babies - get your 2 lots of antib's in in labour or you'll end up staying in!

Sorry I missed this post hun, I want to offer you these     leave these for Ella

I have no good advice, or experience to share with you, and I can only hope that you & Ella stay strong & well and that you continue to enjoy each other.

Thanks for the hugs and support girls - I've realised that there is nothing I can do but continue to care for my daughter - feed and cuddle her and keep an eye on her and what will be will be - there's absolutely no point in worrying myself sick about this as that will not help our continuing calm and happy household.

I couldn't get hold of my HV yesterday but spoke to a midwife who said that it was very very unlikely that anything would develop from the Group B strep now she's nealy 2 weeks old so I feel reassured. My other worry (selfish, I know) is that, was I to get pregnant again - that I wouldn't be allowed a happy home birth as I may need antibiotics during labour but I will sort this out when and if it happens.

Thanks again girls

Hi all

I too had Group B Strep, but knew about it before the birth of my son. I had antibiotic tablets throughout pregnancy (for a related problem with my kidneys), had two lots of iv antibiotics during labour and another lot prior to an emergency caesarean. My son was monitored as a precaution, but i was confident that he would be ok because of the information i had read. Unfortunately, he developed GBS related pneumonia at 15 hours old :( . He was taken to SCBU and had to have blood tests, lumbar puncture, xrays, iv antibiotics and a feeding tube.

Happily, he recovered fairly quickly :cheer: and is now home and doing well. I don't mean to panic people, but please be aware that the antibiotics don't always work - they do reduce the risk considerably, but are not a guarentee that the GBS won't pass on to the baby.

However, Valentine, i'm sure your baby will be fine as the most likely time for something to happen has already passed. Enjoy your baby and it may help to know that some midwives are happy to administer iv antibiotics during a home delivery if they have been prescribed by the doctor in advance - this may make a home delivery with your next baby possible :cheer:

 V & baby Ella
So, so glad that the immediate period has passed, and it's all up hill now    And I think with such a brilliant first homebirth, they'd need darn good reason not to offer you those drugs at home, should you wish that for a future birth

& sananbaz, sorry you had to go through what you did with your son  it's great to hear your little boy is doing well at home, very best wishes
