Hi all!

My OH and I are having conversations about ttc and I feel we may soon be on our way to actually trying. However I was diagnosed with PCOS 5-6 years ago and I turned 29 earlier this year. I'm so painfully conscious of my fertility and that I'm certainly not getting any younger so I was hoping to speak to others who have ttc whilst dealing with PCOS and how the whole process went for you?

I think my first port of call is to get a doctor's appointment and see if they can refer me to the fertility clinic but I don't know if that's what will actually happen lol.

Feel free to give me all the gorey details, and nothing is TMI for me so lay it on me!

Thanks in advance lovelies x

Hiya

Definitely no need for a fertility clinic, they wouldn't refer you anyway on the basis you have pcos.

In a nut shell, you have just as much chance as someone who doesn't have it tbh.

My sister has it and fell pregnant within 5 months of coming off the pill. Her friend also has pcos and fell pregnant in just under a year.

It could take a 'normal' woman a year.

So i would just give it a go and see how you get on. If yo get no where after a year, i would book an appointment with the GP.

I wish you all the luck :dust:

Thanks for the welcome and the response :)

My main concern is that I don't have periods when off the pill so I feel it might be for nothing if I just stop taking the pill :/ That was how I was diagnosed in the first place, I hadn't had a period for 6 months so my doctor freaked out and sent me for a scan. I was told by the fertility clinic that when I wanted to try for a baby to come back (my ex fiancé and I were trying to fall pregnant before the wedding) and that was the end of that.

I've been on the pill since I was 17 as I had one period at 16 and then nothing after that, so rather than diagnose me they put me on the pill and here we are lol.

Thank you, the luck is much appreciated :)

ahhhh ok,i would definitely touch base with your GP then with this being the case.

Advice and guidance from them is invaluable <3

I thought so too, so I'm going to stop the pill for a month or two to see if my body will miraculously produce AF  I'm in the process of losing more weight so hoping it might be easier this time round. Once the two month mark is up I'll go to the doctor's and see what the best course of action is :)

Hi Hun. I also have pcos, I didn’t have a period for a year when I stopped the pill, so they gave me ovarian drilling, which they arranged upon diagnosis (didn’t know I had it) and I got pregnant very quickly after. I have had tgular(ish) periods since my son was born 6 years ago and I also try to maintain a low carb diet, which helps. Best of luck x

That info is really helpful, thankful! At least it gives me an idea of something else to expect. Did they do the ovarian drilling because you were ttc or just as a precaution? Thank you x

They did it for ttc and because on scan I had 12 cysts on one ovary and 18 on the other, and a grape sized (benign) tumour which they removed via keyhole surgery at the same time. I think they thought clomid/metformin was pointless at that stage x

Very interesting! I wonder what they will do with me, hopefully more than they did when they diagnosed me lol.

Hi lovely, I have pcos as do all 4 of my sisters, all of them have needed ivf although I understand lots of women with pcos don’t but even with the family history and my own diagnosis my doctors wouldn’t do anything until we had been trying for a year.

It has been 12 months and once dh has his sa later this month then they will refer us.

If you aren’t having periods at all though I would defo go to the doctors straight away xx

I think I'm just going to keep an open mind and go with the flow. I'm going to get an appointment ASAP and see what they say :) There's literally no way to tell what the next step is and I'm trying so hard not to let it stress me out!
