I am on Flourexitine for depression after Oliver, and I was wondering of anyone else is/was taking them while TTC?

I have looked up some research online, and it looks OK to carry on taking them, and the doctor knows I am TTC, so I would guess its OK, just wanted to get others opinions really.
Thanks.

Hi

Is this the same as Fluoxetine?

In my medicine book (I have one to check up on side affects and use in pregnancy- find it quite handy), it states for Fluoxetine: Pregnancy -Saftey in pregnancy not established. Discuss with Dr.

However, if the Dr gave it to you, it is probably is ok. You could always ring a pharmacist e.g Llyods Chemist and ask them - I do that if unsure.

Hope this helps?

I probably spelled it wrong! lol!!

The doc did give it to me, so I would hope its ok, the research i read, said the risks to the baby, were negligible compared to the good effects on the mother, so I would think so.

Im sure if the doctor knew you were TTC he wouldn't have put you on it. Wishing you all the best x x x

I'm on Citalopram 20mg a day. The doc gave it to me to help with TTC as the stress of it kick started my depression again. I really didn't want to take them, but he showed me that they are fine to take during PG and that if I feel better when if fall they'll look into reducing them. It's not so much the side effects more the baby getting used to them and needing to be weaned off the more addictive types.

I'm much happier being back on them. As my doc said better to have a happy pg mum than a depressed one who could harm herself or even her baby. That really made me think.

You're doing the best for your baby and a healthy pg. Don't worry at all.

I was on paroxetine and when I started TTC number three my doctor changed me to fluoxetine as she said that's the safest one to take when pregnant......

Thanks girls, its good to hear from others in the same boat as it were. Thats great info too sammystar! Thanks!

Wow that has put my mind at rest.

i am taking Citalopram 20mg to control panic attacks that i have had for about 10 years. I met the nurse on Friday to ask about the affect they may have on my baby (i am only 6 weeks) and she was really unhelpful and said they can offer me no advice as no trial have ever been done, and i have to decide what i care about more, my mental health or my baby. She made me feel like a bad mum if i decide to stay on them, but i am reluctant to come off them as i think a mum in a constant state of agitation who regularly has panic attacks would be very bad for my baby.

i'm glad to hear that other people's Drs are more understanding! i am meeting my midwife for the first time tomorrow, so hopefully she can give me some more advice and listen to my concerns.

I'd love to hear from any other mums who are going through the same thing!

That's terrrible Rosie1. What an awful nurse. You're not taking the tablets for fun, she has no right to add to an already difficult choice. All I can do is reemphasise the fact that my Doc said it's fine to take, compared with the other option of not taking them and being unstable. Also Citaloprolam (sp?) is not your typical Anti-depressant it's used more like you are for panic attack and anxiety. It's completely non addictive.

Oooo it makes me so cross when people in the medical profession who should know much better say insensitive things like that. :x

I hope your midwife is more understanding. You are doing the very best you can for your baby. Just remember that and ignore anyone else.

Hi, iv just had a little look about fluoxetine...i cant find anything saying about taking during pregnancy but it says avoid whilst breast feeding....
sorry i cant be of more help

Thanks, i was really upset by what she said too, she was pretty c**p all round to be honest, i went in with about a million questions (as this is my first baby) and she answered nothing, and was very much of the opinion that women have been having babies for 1000s year, and i'm not the first and won't be the last, so should "get on with it". Grr!! :x

I'll let you know what my midwife says tomorrow!

Hope you're feeling well, and not too sick yet!

x
