Is the economic downtown making anyone think twice about starting/expanding their family.

We're very broody but my OH is vulnerably unemployed in a shit minimum wage job at the moment so we keep deferring it. I'm the bigger earner (relatively, my salary is still very average) and I can't conceive of taking another break.

Anyone else?

It hasn't made us think twice, to be honest I doubt you can ever have enough money to try for a baby.

We have been extra careful though and have curbed our spending, we have also got our finances completely straight before ttc so that when we get pg we don't have to worry about credit card bills etc.

Totally agree, our first was unplanned at a risky time. But weighing it up, this time seems really TOO risky, and it's about keeping a roof over our heads rather than forgoing holidays and luxuries.

You sound set up, good luck! :D

tbh hun i think its never a good time to ttc, coz something always goes wrong with planning. If u feel stronlgy about it by all means have a break till your back on track.

DH and I are saving as we ttc, but to be honest if we worry about money then we are never gonna ttc..........

I think Maternity pay should be full pay :cheer:

I'm having the same thoughts minxy. I'm desperate for a baby and we're lucky that DH earns more than me but still things are so hard at the moment I wonder how we'll cope without my wage and with nappies to buy...

It cost me £68 to fill my car up the other day I wanted to cry. We've already started making cut backs with food shopping etc

I love how they are calling it a credit crunch   let's just call it what it is, a reccession!

Yes it has made me think twice. OH and I were going to put it off for a few months, but thankfully he just got a bonus and a payrise yay! Luckily he is in an industry that shouldn't be effected.
But I have a friend who was going to try but has put it off because she just can't afford it :(

Where as I found out today one of my closet friends is pregnant and she has a 6 months old already. She is really worried how she will cope.

I must admit it did cross my mind but more about the mortgage and getting a bigger house (we live in a one bedroom house at the min) OH has told me not to worry about it but like its been said b4 is there ever a time you can afford?? I know ive made sure that we have no debt etc just to try and help things!

Indirectly yes,

DH & I are both emotionally ready, but we can't sell our 1 bed flat so realistically TTC is not sensible! Doesn't stop me wanting to try though!

I worked out the other day that Maia probably costs us about £4 a day not including clothes and toys or nursery and the fuel to get her there!

So thats a basic cost of £120 per month! More than you imagine...I dread to think of the real cost if I added it up! No wonder I feel skint all the time!

I would add thats she's worth every penny incidentally! :D

if another child came along now we will need a bigger house eventually when baby is old enough to move from our room, it is a worry but we are going for it in the hope that things will sort themselves out in the long run, it would mean however being sensible with money and me going back to work after 6 months rather than the 9 months i would have preferred, but that is sacrifices we are more than willing to do. i can't wait to be doing it all over again.
