Sofia us only 3 days old but at night she gets wind, I can hear it and I do the usual over the shoulder or sit her up and pat her back, but in having real issues with it actually coming up.

She's solely breastfed and it's only really an issue in the night. She goes back down but wakes up crying and I can hear the gurgle just don't know how to help her. I tend to try winding again, feed, and the occasional nappy check. I know she's only 3 days but it's already an issue and my milk has just come in.

Anyone with similar experiences or can offer advice? X

I hate nighttime winding. When Isla is awake she "helps" but during the sleepy stage she droops. I jiggle Isla on my knee supporting her back and tummy with my hands. With Sofia only being tiny you may not want to do that until she can hold her head.

We put pressure on her belly and back and lift her so her back straightens. I still struggle now!

I'd get some colic drops or gripe water. In desperate times I have used these. Also check what you are eating I if I have fizzy pop Isla is a wind machine.

Well done on the bf :) and welcome to the night feed!

Emma x

George had the same for the first few days-it sounds likeyou are doing the right things, sometimes it just takes a really long time to come up. It does get easier and quicker for them to bring it up as they get a little bit older. G also had a lot less wind by about day 5.

Thanks girls. Both nights she has fallen asleep at about 6 am and sleeps til 9.30 am so I get a bit of a chunk. Just before this she's up and down like a yoyo. May grab some gripe water x

gripe waters good but a bit of a fiddle to give them. infacol comes with a dropper so itds easier to grab after a feed and pop in their mouth. winding is really hard when theyre sleepy! big hugs, youre doing fab xxx

infacol was brill with noa, but when he was that young i didnt use it as it made him being sick. i struggled to wind him first but what works for him is sit him on my knee, leaned forwars and just brush my hand up and down and across his back sometimes rocking him a little back n forward
xx

I still struggle even though lil man is like 7 months old lol. he has loads of wind he cud do atleast 2 burps on half a feed an burp on the next one n if i put him down to soon he will bring some milk up so i think im oding terrible at winding lol x

I found that gripe water gave him the squits and infacol seemed to give him more wind! :eh:

WHat worked with my friends baby is laying baby on its belly on your arm with head by your elbow and bum in hand slowly swinging and patting their back!!!

Shall give all your tips a go, thank you. I'd rather not give her stuff for it just yet maybe, see if I can solve it by different techniques lol. Thanks guys. Xx

What works for Eva is to hold her upright - her chest on one hand and the other hand on her bum going round in circles making her do the hula!

Mate Aidens the same, it drives me mad especially at night when I ent got the strength to keep my eyes open never mind rub his back! What usually works with us is sitting him up but kind of leant forward with his chin on my hand and head a little bit back, then I rub the whole of his back. Sometimes that don't work though :( so I do the lying on the front technique, don't like doing that though it's a scary way to hold him lol
I was told not to use gripe water until one month, it made him have dodgy poos though so im gonna get some infacol today :) x

if you were to end up trying stuff i got told gripe wwater is for 1mth and older however even if it wasnt, giving a baby of Sofia's age stuff off a spoon is nigh on impossible i swear!! With infacol, it was a lot easier as it was a drop thing on a pipette. Apparently, (so my mw said) it gathers all the wind together in her stomach, so that when you get it up iits pretty much all at one!! x

Infacol is a legend! Got some today Lex and he's wind free! It really is ace. After his first feed with it I literally just sat him up to wind him and he let out three massive burps then fell straight to sleep. Hopefully he'll sleep better now too but that maybe just wishful thinking lol x

you could try lying her across your knee on her tummy then rub or pat her back

We found this worked with Alex he was the same could not get the wind up no matter how we tried. Be careful with gripe water its from 2 months try infacol instead it worked with Alex until he was 2 months and now gripe water works a treat.

thanks girlies! infacol it is :) to be fair to her as the days go on shes getting much easier to wind, just every now and then she wont burp so i put her down then she throws up! grr cant win! ill grab some infacol i think. x

Another fan of infacol here, we wouldnt have survived the early weeks without it I think lol!

Already loads of fab advice on burping, but another thing I found really helpful was to imagine her tummy is a bottle of liquid. You want the air at the top and the liquid at the bottom so the air can escape out the 'spout', so always make sure she is fed with her head higher than her bottom, not laying down flat :)

i did the usual pat rub pat rub then i would kind of roll them round in a circle so if any bubbles are trapped they come loose so basically have her in the sitting position while you support her back and chin and circle her round making sure her bum stays on your lap hope this makes sense its hard to explain lol

i hold my lo around the neck (in a good way lol) and move him around in circular like motions. i saw my friend (she has 4 kids) do this and gave it a try and it works like a treat i dont know if i have described it right but just try it and see!
