Hiya, a friend said to me that too many scans can be bad for baby. Now i'm a bit worried as have had quite a few due to probs. Surely they would have advised me of this if it was true? Has anyone any idea?
hun im sure it cant be some people have to have scans all the time due to problems they wouldnt do them if there was a danger or at the very least they would have to warn you
ive had 2 scans already and will be having probably another 8 or so at least due to having twins and history of still birth and nobody has mentioned it to me i had about 10 scans on christopher too and he was fine try not to worry and if you need to put your mind at ease have a chat with your midwife xxxxxxxxxx
Try not to worry! If too many were dangerous then they wouldnt do that many etc!
A lot of people say a lot of things that if you listened to everything, you wouldnt move or eat etc! Trust your docs and trust yourself!!!
I'm not sure about scans - I know there's a 'safe yearly limit' for x-rays.
I'd have to look at scientific reports to make any proper judgement
I completely agree that sending any kind of 'wave' or 'radiation' through your body can't be good for it to some degree. It's man-made manipulation (with a limited research period) and not found anyware in the natural world.
You often find procedures termed as 'safe' are then found to have implications 50+ years down the line but until we get to that point no body knows
I also understand that reactions to these things may be extremely rare so they're otherwise deemed 'safe' and also that if nobody has seen any implications yet then they'd have no reason so assume that they aren't safe
So I guess all my rambling id just to say that I've actually heard both sides of the story from friends and family (info from various sources) but I think the risks are very low or they'd have shown up already in research - so I wouldn't overly worry about it
Hi, Cant find anything on them being bad really and feel better knowing that some of you have had lots too so am going to stop worrying about it. Hopefully I will only need to have the one at 32 weeks now, fingers grossed. Thanks for replies.
I had fertility treatment. I had to be scanned every other day for 3 weeks to check for when I was going to ovulate. Then I had 5 scans in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy as had lots of bleeding. I think scans are fine. Most of mine were internals.
All an ultrasound scan is, is waves of sound. When the sound hits an object it bounces back and produces an image (obviously a bit more technical but you get my meaning )
If you were having MRI scans (which uses HUGE magnets) or CT scans (which uses radiation like an x-ray) then it would be harmful, but an ultrasound is harmless so don't worry.
