Hi,

We really like the name Sophie but know its fairly common... What do you think?

Thinking maybe a more unique middle name? Our surname is Barton... X

It's a very pretty name, my niece is called Sophie.

For me it's too popular/ top 100 but that's just me, don't worry about what others think - if you like it go for it, go with your gut x

it's a pretty name and if you love it you should go for it! We haven't decided on names yet, but I really love Poppy and HATE that it's so popular, but we won't let popularity hold us back.
You need to choose a name you're in love with and if you love Sophie then I'd say do it!

As the others have said really. It's not a name for me, but it's lovely. X

I think it's lovely. I only know one and she is almost 4 so it's not too popular around here.

It's tricky picking names as a teacher as can't help but think of children I teach with those names! But they come and go... Got to think of my child's name forever :) x

I love the nam, I know only one girl called Sophie...the most popular name here is Ava, Amalie, Amanda and Evie. Each of these names I know AT _LEAST 3 (around a lot of children)

I think Sophie is a lovely name. Finding the right name is so hard, if you love it I wouldn't let popularity put you off. My boys both have names that are in the top 40 but we don't know any other children with the same names and we socialise a lot! If you love it, go with it x

Sophie is a really lovely name (hence its obvious popularity) but remember popular names are generational - I'm 25 and have lots of friends/went to school with lots of Sophie's, but my MIL is a TA at a girls primary school and can only think of 1 Sophie - lots of Olivia's/Amelia's/Evie's etc... I guess name popularity depends on where you live as well. My favourite boys name (Logan) is in the top 20 but I work in an all boys primary school of nearly 200 boys and not a single one named Logan. I think if you love a name you should just go for it.
But pretty and less popular variations Iv heard- Sophia/Sofia or Saffron (Saffy)
Xxx

Thanks for responses, you're right, we do love it and the only name we both love equally so think we will :)

I'm not one who worries about popularity so I say go for it. Plus Sophie is a lovely name and will work throughout her life. I go for names where I can envision a baby, teenager, middle aged and pensioner being able to pull it off, and Sophie definitely works under my criteria

Aw thanks :) lets just hope she's not a tom boy now with her lovely pink room and girly name lol xx

If you love the name then go for it, don't worry if you think it's too popular. Our daughter has got a really common name "Emily" but I couldn't care less, I love her name and that's all that matters. Xxx

I'm not going to worry about how rare/common names are. If you like it, use it.

My name is common and I was one of 4 in my half of the year at high school. It never bothered me and nobody ever really brought it up. As an adult I haven't personally met/known someone with my name in years!

Just think why it's popular
because people love it! X

Do you think Sophie Elizabeth works well? I like Sophie Sienna with the double S but hubby not keen!

Yep, the same here. There were at least half a dozen of us in my year with the same name, but I rarely come across people with it now in my day-to-day life. Made no difference to me at all. A friend of mine hated having an unusual name when she was at school.

At the end of the day you have to go with what you like. Even names that people think are unusual or uncommon sometimes turn out to be really popular really fast and then lose their uniqueness.

I love the name Sophie. It's my daughter's middle name and my niece's first name.

I love the name Sophie and although I know it's popular I don't know anyone who have used it x

I love nasme Sophie/Sophia! Elizabeth is wonderful for the middle name. Have you thought of other middle names?
