Does anyone else have any experience with this? August and I have really struggled with breastfeeding and the lactation consultant says that he has a tongue tie which is affecting his ability to latch on. We have an appointment next week for a specialist to look at it, but for right now I am having to express and feed him with a bottle.

Its quite upsetting for me as I'm desperate to breastfeed. Hopefully after the appointment next week things will get better, but for now I am working on protecting my milk supply.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem.

I haven't but wanted to send some of these

Its great you are keeping going with expressing and feeding until he sees a specialist. I know its not easy to do even with a few feeds so doing them all takes even more.

Hopefully they will be able to help and you'll be able to experience BF'ing :) It might be painful to start but it really is a great experience and worth sticking with so I really hope the problem can be solved.

I am tounge tied - I obviously cant remember how I was at breast feeding, but just wanted to senbd you some  and luck for the appt!

Thanks everyone. I'm just trying to stay positive and make it to next Tuesday. I'm a little worried about having it snipped as I don't want to cause him pain, but the consultant says its not bad and should really help with breast feeding.

Just wondered how you got on at appointment, Maisy is seeing her peaditrician next week

Sorry Suzy....I'm just now seeing this. We had his tongue tie released and things have improved. It was a bit traumatic for both of us, but now I'm glad we had it done. He didn't latch on straight away, but about 2 days later he did and we have been breastfeeding ever since. I've had to top up with formula once a day, but I hope to exclusively breastfeed eventually. How did Maisy's appointment go?

maisy had her appointment, she is doin fine in the 3 key things they look for, speech, teeth growth and feeding.
because of her age, if i wanted it cut, she would have to have a general anesthetic so thats it for now. im not putting her through that just so she can lick a lolly!!
she is going to be reviewed again in 6 months just to check her speech but im going to leave it at that.

That's good. I didn't realise it could also affect teeth growth. I hope everything goes well at the next review.

Izzie was tongue tied, and we had it snipped :D I was terrified that it was going to hurt her, but she didnt even notice theyd done anything!! She was still on bottles afterwards though because i had so much trouble BFing, i gave up :( But she started taking her bottles much better (without dribbling) and now she loves to sit with her tongue poking out, ehich she could never do before :D

Well done for persevering with expressing

Hope the appointment goes well
