after hearing everyone go on about it
i cant decide if to watch it or not?
ive only got terestrial telly so missed it last week but you can see it on line cant you?

should i watch it is it worth it for the education
or should i give it a miss there have been so many scared people after seeing it i am not sure if i could stomach it or not.

But i feel i also need ot know what's going to happen to me.

what do you think???

I would watch it. I did and I didn't regret it. But then I think I'm still in denial.

I say watch it.

I am VERY squeamish, so much so that a birth video I watched from somewhere in this forum gave me a panic attac (and it was short, not much blood and the poor woman barely made a sound!).

But I do recommend you watch this because it is beautiful.

SKIP THE EPISIOTOMY BIT (somewhere in the first 15 mins Dawn is watching a video of an episiotomy from the internet) THERE'S NO NEED FOR YOU TO WATCH THAT.
When we saw that bit my husband took the remote and wouldn't let me watch the rest because I was gonna be terrified etc. then I convinced him and we both enjoyed the birth in water at the end.

How the woman forgot the pain THE SECOND her baby came out and she was so chuffed she even forgot to check if it was a boy or a girl!

I watched it twice...

Watch it :)

i think its a really good program its well worth watching. your only going to see reality.

Watch it, its really good. But I agree, skip the Episiotomy. Theres no need to watch it. I had one and I wouldn't watch it. You're not going to be down there so you don't need to see how they do it. You can find out what it entails without actually having to witness it.
I thought the births were really good, esp the last one. It was very different to mine and seemed a lot calmer and focused.

yep i watched it online after someone posted a link.
i thought it was fascinating - even though i've been through birth twice.
i love watching births, it's an amazing experience and both births were very special. i'd love mine to be filmed, but they're not allowed to at my hospital

watch it hun, it's fantastic!!! really enjoyed it as did OH

I watched it this morning and the thing I like the most is that it tells you how it is. There is no sugar coated version of childbirth...you know its going to hurt loads and I think by watching it, it prepares you for the worst...
At least you know what to expect and what can happen...its very informative. Yes you may get creeped out by it and petrified, but at least you know that there is a beautiful baby at the end of it and the pain is so easily forgotten once you are holding your babba.
:)

This is my second baby and it did freak me out a bit BUT it was a very interesting and informative programme and the birth at the end was very calm and lovely.

The programme is quite funny as well, I say watch it :D

I watched it the other day after debating to or not. The day I watched it I was actually crapping myself about birth and funny enough after seeing it I felt loads better :) Its not bad at all and it calmed me alot about the birth. The Episiotomy isnt all that nice but Ive seen it before and if you do watch it just rememeber she cant feel a thing as her bits are so stretched and numb, it just looks horrendous. Also get a box of tissues as the birth at the end is very emotional

I watched it online this evening as hubby saw it last night (I posted here in 3rd tri about his watching it)

I'd say watch it.

I'm not one to get all sqeamish or flustered when seeing such things however. But its not for everyone.

TBH though its nothing overly graphic and it is well presented (I liked the journo was a little bit lighthearted and upbeat about things).

It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know either. But it was nice to see 2 waterbirths and see how different the women were and how they handled the pain and other things. The second woman was much more focused on her breathing over the pain, whereas the first woman seemed to concentrate on the pain more.

I was pretty unmoved by the first birth for various reasons, but the second mum giving birth brought tears to my eyes. It was lovely :)

Watch it online here 2 days left to do so btw

I should add having seen it, its not made me more scared of labour only reinforced for me how I hope to labour and work through my pain and contractions. To make it about focusing on my breathing and so on and not focus on the pain and how much it hurts. I really do feel its mind over matter and am good at rationalising my pain in that way. I know what is causing it, understand why and can therefore deal with it better.

I know labour pain is going to be worse than anything else I've experienced but still would like to take the more focused approach if I can.

That I also hope for a home water birth meant it was good to see. It gave me some things to think about for the pool.

Sarah - did you watch this?
I have just finished watching it now after hearing everyone talk about it.

Jeez did i cry. Out of happiness for the two women, I am still scared, Altho when they showed how the instruments are used, i though it was worse than that.

:)

lol

I really recommend watching it - it reassured me a lot! The women in the 2 births you see have only the pool and gas and air for pain relief and they manage really well.

If you don't want to see the episiotomy it would be easy to look away - it's the bit when she's looking at a video on the internet. Afterwards when she speaks to a midwife the midwife reassures her about it.

I liked seeing how the forceps are used (on a dummy, not a person) - it was 100 times less scary than I thought!

The thing which made me most uncomfortable about the whole thing was the idea of having a male midwife there to be honest  Does that make me sexist?

And I cried so much at the second birth - in a very happy way.

The idea of the program was to show what it's really like in labour and giving birth - and it looks less scary than I imagined.

I am not going to watch it. I am quite calm about child birth, can't see the need in scaring myself silly. If it is bad when I get there, I will cope. No point worrying for 9 months before hand.
