HI

Well as some of you know kiara has thrush.
The first doc gave me drops which a few days later i found out that i had it too and needed treatment. so my second visit they told me to stop the drops and just put cream on myself beofre feeing and after feeding her.
Well now at my 8 week checkup the doc said that its nit doing nothing cuz its not going on the spots that need it, so she said to use a toothbrush and put cream on that and rube it all over her gums and put cream on me after feedings. Im just so fed up with doctors and there different opinions which in the last month has just costed me more money and a waste of time and less sleep cuz Kiara is so cranky and gasst from it.
 .
Sorry to moan im just getting so frusterated.

For those of you whose babys had it and yourself what did you do and how long did you rbaby have it and how long did it take ot go away after treatment
Please Please help . Also the guy at the pharmacy argued with me saying its not safe to put the cream in the babys mouth cuz its only suppost to be for outside of the body... i ended up lying and saying its for my self can anyone tell me if its ok cuz im just so flustered.

Hi Katrina

My thrush took a week to go completely. I was given diaflucan tablets as mine had gine into my milk ducts and for Olivia's gums I was given Daktarin gel (or known as miconazole) which was really easy to put on her gums as it's a thick gel ajnd she loved the taste!

At first I was given nystatin drops which she hated and wouldn't stay in her mouth.

HTH

Seren had the same treatment as Olivia, the nystatin solution which she hate then the daktarin oral gel. I had daktarin gel. Ii am convinced thought that I still have it though the Dr thinks its my positioning as she can't find any signs on either of us. I have had mmy positioning checked and its fine. i should argue more but its too tiring!

hi

Thanks for replies, ive neverheard of the cream your using, she was told to use canesten which is an anti fungil cream if thats how you spell it.
Katrina

I had caneston first for me but it didn't help me.

HI

Beanie did you use caneston for inside, the mouth cuz thats what they want me to do as well as for my nipples?
Katrina

no it was just for my nipples. Seren had the nystatin solution.

We are still going through our thrush episode. :(

Its much better but samuel still has it in his mouth. :wall:

I also had it in my milk ducts and I was in absolute agony for over a week. I nearly gave up every day :(

I never realised that breastfeeding (as rewarding as it is) would cause so much grief! Combine the pain with the worries about whether he is getting enough, what foods I am eating and how much weight he is putting on!

Luckily he is putting on loads of weight and loves my milk so that is good. Still a constant worry though.

I know what you mean about bfing giving you grief. Am in agony again, my nipples are ridiculously sore and I feel like they are burning. It is hurting when Seren feeds to, and Dr's not open til Monday. Sarah, what treatment did they give you for the thrush in your milk ducts. I really do think this is what is casuing this pain.

Hi there

Beanie - the tablets I was prescribed were called Diaflucan (miconzole) and when I went to the breast feeding clinic the HV asked me what I'd been given and when I told her she said she was glad as it's the best treatment for thrush when it's gone into your ducts but sometimes doctors don't prescribe it as it's not licenced to be used with breastfeeding (but it's totally safe to when breastfeeding but just hasn't gots it licence for it yet).

Sarah - gald to hear things are getting better, I totally agree with you that the breastfeeding is so rewarding (hey I even look forward to Olivia's next feed - something I never thought I would) but the worries about weight gain and how much they're drinking etc is constant (it'd be good if our boobs came with fl oz guages on the side! )

Hi

Kiara still has her thrush too its been over a month now and nothing seems to be workin and every doctor says somthing different.
hope you all are doing better ah :? .
Katrina

cheers for that Lucy. I was on painkillers cos it hurt so bad last night

Sorry Beanie I just realised that the Diaflucan tablets are from the fluconzole brand - it's the Daktarin gel that is part of miconzole.

How's the pain today - any better?

Lucy

Not really, its really painful when feeding, poor seren must sense me tensing up as she has been pulling at the breast which hasn't helped matters :(

Hi girls

me yet again :? Well i have red all over my nipples and just appeared well just noticed nwo anyways is this form us having thrush?
thanx
Katrina

Hi

I am on the fluconazole tablets for my milk ducts.

the tablets aren't actually properly licensed over here (only in the U.S)and not all doctors will prescribe it

Luckily I have got a health visitor who is REALLY into breastfeeding (I mean she is totally obsessed by it) and I would have given up weeks ago had it not been for her support.

Samuel has still got a bit of thrush in his mouth, but we are hoping to see the back of it this week.

Its annoying as I am not allowed to express while we have it as the thrush will get stored in the breastmilk and will re-infect us at a later date.

Very annoying! :wall:

HI

Well io went to see my actual doctor today and he gave me yet another perscription for the drops for Kiara so it better go away this time its getting so annoying, and costing me mroe and more money.
Katrina
