Thrush

Mrsjohnson, did your swab results come back?
My nipples continue to be very painful but I contnue taking my diflucan daily and hoping for the best. Also applying rhe daktarin but not sure it's doing much.

I really hope I get better soon because the thought of putting my baby to the breast is excrutating. :-/

Yeah they came back today and are negative! cant believe it but really pleased. Makes sense now as the treatment was making no difference at all but the techniques to improve my latch really helped. We are not totally painfree but a million times better. Can you see a bfing specialist for advice? Really helped me.xx

My little girl is 13 weeks and I've had thrush since week 3. Absolutely nothing worked on clearing it from me, I had weeks of Fluconazole, Daktarin and Daktacort. Then a woman at a baby group recommended Actiformcool wound dressings. You need to have these prescribed bit it worked wonders, I think a lot of my discomfort was down to unhealed irritation from scratching. Unfortunately my little girl wouldn't feed from me once I had the thrush and by week 5 she was exclusively express breast fed. I express all her feeds now. Very hard work but I didn't want the thrush to stop me feeding her x

That's great news indeed as the damn thing is very hard to clear.
I go to a breastfeeding group here in Singapore every Monday where I can spend time with a lactation consultant who has been seeing us since Rio was born 7 weeks ago. The latch is totally fine and she confirmed that the thrush is improving, albeit slowly.

It was tough yesterday evening when he was cluster feeding and wanting to suckle for about 4 hours straight! Luckily he has slept 22.30 till 4 am and that's given my nipples a rest and they're much better now. Hopefully we are on the mend!

Aww i really hope so. You are doing an amazing job! Cluster feeds are really hard work but nice that you got a few hours break at the end of it. Keep going hunny it will get easier xx

Yes, it cleared up after the 2 weeks of diflucan treatment. I stopped using the nipple cream after about 1week because my LO could taste it and Was fussy when nursing even if I washed my nipples.

All is good now. But I have to be careful not to get it again. Thanks for asking :-)
