I know you can get this book anywhere but I'm sure than when I was little, my version had a rope through it that was like the caterpillar that you threaded through the holes. Can you stil get this version?

Never seen one like that, but have seen the small board book in a gift set with cuddly caterpillar .

Maybe they stopped doing the rope version because it was a choking hazard or something. It was 28 yrs ago or so..

Lol its true...I had a version with a rope with it...my daughter just got the normal one... :(

closest i could find, looks like a bigger version maybe meant for a classroom, you feed the caterpillar through the pages. hope this helped a bit xx

'Synopsis
This much-loved classic picture book follows the caterpillar's week while he eats through a range of foods in preparation for his hibernation and subsequent appearance as a beautiful butterfly. With its die-cut pages and holes to explore, this is a richly satisfying book for children. The cuddly caterpillar toy can be pushed through the giant holes as children follow this simple, hopeful story. '

i love this book i had it with kids, you can get it in whsmith and big book places :)

It was the version with the rope that I fancied! Will also get my babe:
We're going on a Bear Hunt
The Gruffalo
Where the Wild Things Are
Dear Zoo
Funny Bones
The Jolly Postman

Of course..just for me to reread! Already got Each Peach Pear Plum...

Have you read the Bad Tempered Ladybird? I got that one along with the ones you've listed :)

Hungry caterpillar was always my favourite.

Another really good book is "The big red bath" by Julia Jarman. She came into school to talk to the children about writing books and read this one out at the end - even the yr 7s were spellbound! lol!

Our copy has little holes in the fruit pages that little fingers can poke through. His best loved toy is a crocheted caterpillar that I made before he was born to look like the one in the book. We have to cuddle "cacky-ca" when we read the book of course as it's about him!

Bear Hunt is fabulous because it's so dramatic! He loves the sounds (the mud, the swishy grass etc) and recently he's started waking up in the night and saying bits of it to himself- especially the "Ah oh, mud!" bit :rotfl:

I love reading to him so much that sometimes we go to bed early to get a full 45 mins in- though this tends to excite him too much as we have a proper "rumpus" like Max and the monsters in Where the Wild Things Are and stomp around the room growling! Lol! I've been wanting to share those books with someone little for years- love it!

We also like Peace At Last and Whatever Next by Jill Murphy with the bear family. Peace At Last is a really good one for babies as it has sound effects too like a ticking clock and a dripping tap etc- all things they might hear or see in a house anyway everyday.

I think most places have a Bookstart scheme where you can get free packs with books and activities aimed at babies and toddlers from your library. Worth checking out if you haven't already as we just got the toddler pack and got a free copy of Walking Through The Jungle as well as various other stuff, it's really good.

I hadn't heard of The Big Red Bath- off to add it to my (cough) Mel's Amazon wish list!

When I was training to be a teacher at college we had a children's literature seminar and we had to do all the actions! It was hilarious!
