So, we are watching "The Sex Researchers" lol, and I went out to make a cup of tea so didn't hear what they were talking about on the programme but OH decided to enlighten me with their question....

"If men only orgasm so that us ladies can have babies, why the hell do women orgasm"

So of course I burst out laughing, but, on reflection... ????

Anyone actually know the answer??? xx

I don't know the answer for sure. I know that when you have an orgasm the cervix dips and makes it easier for the spermies to go in (or something like that)
No idea I'd there is another reason though - apart from pleasure

exactly what I know so far lol. think OH was just trying to sound and feel "useful" haha! almost like he suddenly has "purpose" lol... xx

I think the general opinion is that women orgasm because there is strong selection for men to be able to do so, they can't ejaculate and make a woman pregnant without it. Just the same way that men have nipples that they don't really need. And to be fair not all women orgasm, there's about 10-15% of all women (if I remember correctly) that can't orgasm at all, not with all the stimulation in the world.

The fact that many of us can orgasm is a really useful and fun perk though, even if we don't need it to get pregnant
